New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced the Indian T20 squad for the match against Bangladesh. All-rounder Surya Kumar Yadav, after his stunning performance in the T20 World Cup, is chosen as the captain of this tournament.

Indian star wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is resting after the three-match T20 series against Bangladesh, which starts on October 6 in Guwahati, India.

Pant, who returned to Test cricket after 21 months with a storming century in Chennai, was granted leave ahead of the three-Test series against New Zealand in late October.

Test regulars Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj and Khaleel Ahmed were also left out of the T20 squad ahead of the New Zealand series.

All of them were part of the new Indian T20 team under captain Suryakumar Yadav in Sri Lanka. Pacer Mayank Yadav, who impressed for Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League last season, has been called up.

India coach Gautam Gambhir mentored the Giants as Yadav took seven wickets in four matches for Lucknow.

All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who also made headlines during the Sunrisers Hyderabad match, was selected after he missed the Zimbabwe T20 series due to injury.

Left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma, who scored his first T20 hundred against Zimbabwe, returns to the squad after missing the Sri Lanka tour.

Spinner Varun Chakravarthy receives his first call-up from the 2021 Twenty20 World Cup. Pacer Harshit Rana and batsman Jitesh Sharma are also in the squad.

Sanju Samson, who was part of India’s winning T20 World Cup team in 2024, will be the first-choice batsman in Pant’s absence. The three T20 matches will be played on October 6, 9 and 12 in Guwahati, Delhi and Hyderabad respectively.
