Trump campaign pushes back on ‘SNL’ skit about assassination attempts: ‘Disgusting’

On Saturday, the Trump campaign’s social media account was pulled from “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) after the season premiere featured a skit about assassination attempts against former President Trump.

James Austin Johnson played Trump openly and referenced the first assassination attempt that took place on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, while introducing the former president at one of his rallies.

“Where the hell is everyone going? Where are you going? I see you’re trying to leave, but the door is locked. Come back – we’re having fun. We love my rallies, except when someone goes “bing, bong” “bing, bing, bing” right at me. Did you know that this happened because of the rhetoric of the radical left? They say blaming Democrats for inciting violence is bullshit,” Johnson said.

The Trump campaign posted on social media: “There have been two assassination attempts on President Trump in seven weeks. @nbcsnl obviously finds this funny. Disgusting”.

“SNL” also addressed the assassination attempts during an episode of “Weekend Update,” during which Colin Jost joked that he was “beginning to worry that the bullet hit a little more than just the ear” after playing a clip of Trump saying that a better “organ” than President Biden at a recent rally.

Jost raised the issue again, noting former first lady Melania Trump’s recent interview.

“By the way, Melania Trump gave a rare television interview this week in which she accused Democrats of creating the conditions that led to the assassination attempts on Trump, which is ridiculous. When Democrats want to eliminate a presidential candidate, they do what they have to do,” Jost said.

Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt at a July rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The bullet grazed the president’s ear, and the shooter killed 50-year-old Corey Comperatore – husband, father and former chief of the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department. The gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, also seriously injured two other rally participants.

On September 15, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested after allegedly putting the barrel of an AK-47 through a fence outside where Trump was playing golf in Florida.
