11 crore visits, 8000 sellers cross Rs. 1 lakh sales in 48 hours

Amazon Great Indian Festival 2024 has kicked off with a record opening for both sellers and brand partners on Amazon.in, bringing smiles to millions of customers across the country.

In the first 48 hours alone, nearly 11 billion customers visited the festival and sales of over 8,000 vendors crossed the Rs. Selling for 1 lakh. This is the best opening in the history of the event.

Introduction of new products and savings

The event showcased over 25,000 new products in various categories such as smartphones, laptops, TVs, fashion, home furnishings, household appliances and food products.

According to the company, customers have availed exclusive offers through SBI debit and credit cards, leading to savings of Rs. 240 crore in the first two days.

Amazon Prime members

Amazon saw historic growth in Prime members during the first 24 hours of Prime Early Access (PEA), with 140% more members making purchases compared to the average day. Prime members made 8x more purchases during PEA, and over 3 million unique products were delivered within the same or next day.

Demand from tier 2 and 3 cities

The festival saw strong demand from tier 2 and tier 3 cities, especially in categories such as smartphones, home appliances, fashion and furniture. Popular brands such as Apple, Samsung, LG and Daikin were in high demand.

According to the company, 1 in 3 customers availed SBI Bank EMI offers and the number of no-cost EMI transactions increased by 40%, with 90% of EMI purchases focused on mobile phones, TVs and home appliances.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)

Small and medium-sized enterprises, including women entrepreneurs and craftsmen, played an important role in the festival. In the first 48 hours, small and medium-sized businesses sold over 1,500 units per minute.

More than 8,000 sellers have crossed the Rs. 1 lakh sales and over 20,000 small and medium businesses doubled their sales compared to an average day. Sellers from tier 2 and tier 3 cities like Moradabad, Jodhpur and Surat have contributed to this success.

The growing role of Amazon Pay

Amazon Pay saw an increase in usage, with 1 in 11 orders placed via Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit card and a 16% increase in UPI transactions year-on-year. More than 25% of customers used Amazon Pay for their purchases, and travel bookings through Amazon Pay doubled compared to last year.

Sales trends in various categories
  • Smartphones: 75% of sales came from Tier 2-3 cities and 70% of premium phone sales came from non-Tier 2 cities.
  • TVs: 80% of TV orders came from tier 2-3 cities.
  • Laptops and headphones: Laptops saw five-fold growth in these cities, while headphones and cameras saw double-digit growth.
  • Major home appliances: Sales of washing machines, refrigerators and air conditioners increased 1.4 times in category 2-3 cities compared to category 1 cities.
  • Amazon Fresh: Tier 2 and 3 cities saw a 1.6 times increase in grocery orders.
  • Furniture and home appliances: Categories like deep fryers and robotic vacuum cleaners have seen growth of over 30% in tier-2 cities.
Popular shopping
  • Gaming laptops: Sales increased 19 times compared to the pre-Christmas period.
  • High-class smartwatches: Brands like Amazfit and Samsung have seen significant year-on-year growth.
  • Fitness products: Premium cameras, smart fans, fryers and home security systems have seen a surge in demand.
  • B2B purchasing: New business registrations on Amazon Business increased 4.5x and bulk orders increased 12x compared to normal business days.
  • Fashion and beauty: More than 60% of fashion and beauty orders came from tier 2 and smaller cities, which accounted for more than 55% of total orders.
  • Books and toys: In these categories, new customers increased by over 150% in the first 48 hours.
  • Amazon Pay travel bookings: Customers booked 2x more flights and 1.6x more hotels, with 50% of these bookings coming from new customers.
  • Furniture and mattresses: Amazon has become the most popular place to shop for furniture, with 1.4x year-over-year growth in the category.
  • Subscribe and save: The “Subscribe and Save” program saw a three-fold increase in the first 48 hours of the festival.
Bazaars and convenience

The Amazon Bazaar section saw a 10x increase in daily purchases compared to the pre-event average. More than 50% of these customers were new or returning after more than a year.

Customers also benefited from free assembly services and extended warranties for household appliances, making the festival a convenient and economical way to shop.

Logistics expansion

In preparation for the festival, Amazon has added three new fulfillment centers in Delhi NCR, Guwahati and Patna. In addition, over 110,000 seasonal jobs were created to improve the quality of deliveries.

The festival lasts until the end of October
