Harry Styles is doing princely, ruffled collars now

Harry Styles is doing princely, ruffled collars now

When you’re Harry Styles and have been hailed as one of the best-dressed musicians of our time, fashion shows are a pretty standard Sunday afternoon activity. However, unlike other celebrity guests who make the rounds throughout the stadium, Styles’ front-row appearances aren’t as frequent, which makes them even more glamorous.

He showed up at Paris Fashion Week over the weekend for the Valentino show, which makes sense. Newly appointed creative director Alessandro Michele has long been friends with Styles, and this was another show of support for a working relationship that began in 2015. Styles, always the poster boy for high-end knitwear, wore a bright orange Valentino sweater to ward off the fall chill, but underneath, the “Daylight” singer served up an Elizabethan flex.

A pastel blue shirt peeked out from under his almost neon knitwear, and instead of the usual spread collar, it had been replaced with a little ruffled prince’s dress. To enhance the charm of the charming lord, the shirt also had ruffled cuffs. It’s fun, a change and very Harry Styles-esque.

The designer himself took over from Pierpaolo Piccioli as creative director of Valentino in March this year. He is known for his brand of vintage glamour, opulence and a historic, slightly nerdy exuberance, which is exactly what we got in his debut collection. It’s a spiritual match for Styles, too.

Look, there’s nothing wrong with a standard Oxford shirt; many guys like them for a reason. However, if you want to add a bit of spicy Tudor energy to your style, choose noble, princely and frilly – just like Harry Styles.
