First look at Peaky Blinders: Cillian Murphy returns as Tommy Shelby

The Peaky Blinders The shooting of the film has officially started. To mark the occasion, Netflix has released the first look at Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, who reprises his role as gang leader Tommy Shelby (above) and… well, there’s nothing wrong with that, Tommy Shelby. No conclusions can be drawn about the film or its content from this photo of him next to a brick wall. Nevertheless, it may whet your appetite Peaky Blinders fans around the world who are waiting for the continuation of the series.

“I’m thrilled that cameras are recording this new chapter in the series Peaky Blinders a story set during World War II,” series creator Steven Knight (pictured below, on set with Murphy) told Netflix. “The country is at war and so are our Peaky Blinders.”

Murphy will be joined in the film by returning cast members as well as newcomers Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth and Rebecca Ferguson. Other than the events surrounding World War II, little else has been revealed about the plot. Knight teased that he would be “explosive.” And despite the many projects he is currently involved in (writing Pablo Larraín Marystarting a new series A thousand blowspreparing their next new program House of Guinnessrealizing their own Who wants to become a millionaire checks), keeps an eye on it Peaky future, having previously teased that one or more of the film’s non-Tommy characters could have spin-off potential.

The film is directed by Tom Harper, who directed several episodes of the series in the first season. “When I first directed Peaky Blinders “over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we knew there was something about the alchemy of the cast and the writing that was explosive,” Harper said in his own statement to the streamer. “‘Peaky’ has always been a story about family, so it is incredibly exciting to reunite with Steve and Cillian to bring the film to audiences around the world on Netflix.”

“There is a great sense of anticipation and excitement among our outstanding cast and crew,” added Harper. “We are grateful to the fans for getting us to this point and we believe that the next chapter will bring something extraordinary.”
