NFL kicker Brandon McManus avoids league discipline after sexual assault allegations: reports

Veteran kickboxer Brandon McManus will not face any punishment from the NFL after the league’s investigation into a sexual assault allegation found “insufficient evidence” of violating its personal conduct policy, according to NFL Network.

McManus, who has been a free agent since filing the lawsuit, was accused by two women of sexual assault during a charter flight to London while he was playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season.

McManus signed with the Washington Commanders but was released in June as the league concluded its investigation.

However, due to the league’s decision to no longer enforce any discipline, McManus is not expected to be a free agent as long as teams call on him to find a new home in the league.

Earlier this month, Judge Michael S. Sharrit ruled that under Florida law, the two women’s use of the terms “Jane Doe I” and “Jane Doe II” did not meet the “exceptional case” criteria required to ensure the party’s anonymity.

“Fairness requires that plaintiffs be willing to publicly defend their allegations in the same way that defendant McManus must openly refute them,” Judge Sharrit added.

The case was ultimately dismissed, although Tony Buzbee, an attorney for both women who also represented many of the women involved in Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson’s paid massage scandal, released a statement saying it was an “expected” ruling.

“Most defendants in sexual assault cases file these types of motions thinking that victims will not proceed with the trial if they have to publicly reveal their names,” Buzbee said in a statement to ESPN. “We anticipated such a ruling. To be clear, these women have no intention of running and hiding and will comply with the court’s order in a timely manner. We look forward to continuing to pursue this important case.”

Two women who were stewards on the charter flight to London say McManus, 33, rubbed himself against them. They said the flight “quickly turned into a party” for the Jaguars, and McManus allegedly began throwing $100 bills to flight attendants in exchange for inappropriate dancing.

Doe I claims one of McManus’ teammates looked embarrassed by what the veteran kicker was doing, while he allegedly “smiled and walked away” from Doe II after she confronted him.
