First look at Cillian Murphy in Netflix’s ‘Peaky Blinders’.

Netflix has released the first photo of Cillian Murphy reprising his role as Tommy Shelby in the upcoming film Peaky Blinders movie.

The film, a direct continuation of the series, takes place several years after the events of the sixth season finale, after the Shelby family during World War II. The streamer confirmed that work on the film has begun, also giving fans a preview of its hero.

In the newly released photos, Murphy stands in profile against a brick wall and has gray hair as Tommy. He sees the second snap Oppenheimer the star poses on set with series creator Steven Knight, who also wrote and produced the film.

“On the orders of Peaky Blinders…Tommy Shelby is back,” Netflix captioned the post. “Cillian Murphy and Steven Knight reunite on set as production officially begins on upcoming Netflix film.”

It was announced that Murphy will be joined by Marvel’s Tim Roth, with previously announced stars Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan rounding out the team. More cast members are also expected to be revealed in due course.

Given the wartime setting, the film may refer to Tommy Shelby’s traumatic past as a sergeant major in World War I, which left him with nightmares and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, it has not been made clear whether Tommy will be directly involved in the conflict.

As for Knight, he teased that the story of the war would be told Peaky Blinders way.

“I’m thrilled that cameras are recording this new chapter of the series Peaky Blinders a story set during World War II,” he said in a statement. “The country is at war and so are our Peaky Blinders.”

The film was directed by Tom Harper, who promised an “extraordinary” sequel to the Birmingham gang saga.

“There is a great sense of anticipation and excitement among our outstanding cast and crew,” he said. “We are grateful to the fans for getting us to this point and we believe that the next chapter will bring something extraordinary.”

There is currently no release date or title Peaky Blinders movie.
