Joanna and Chip Gaines surprise fans with a long-awaited announcement

Joanna and Chip Gaines have been involved in many projects – but their latest one made history.

The Magnolia Network founders are executive producers of the upcoming Max series, Roller Jam, the first-ever roller skating competition series to finally have an air date.

Sharing a trailer for the new six-episode series on Instagram, fans went crazy when it was revealed that Joanna would be a guest judge when the series premiered on October 10.

“Welcome to the ultimate skateboarding showdown. From @StreamOnMax and @MagnoliaNetwork #RollerJam premieres on October 10 on Max,” the caption reads.

The couple’s fans were delighted with the news, with many expressing their excitement for the new series.

“I’m already obsessed,” one of them commented. A second said: “I’m so excited about this!” A third added: “Wow I’m excited, let’s do it!”

The show has been called “a nostalgic, family-friendly competition featuring the best roller skating teams in America.”

Talented skating teams will perform a variety of routines inspired by different decades.

Hosted by Jordin Sparks, the teams will be judged by two-time U.S. Olympian and national figure skating champion Johnny Weir and roller skating legend Terrell Ferguson.

The winner will take home $150,000 and a $10,000 donation to a local rink.

The trailer features teams from Atlanta, Houston, Las Vegas, Nashville, New York and St. Louis, who show off their amazing skills, including flips and spins, on ice skates.

Last year, Joanna and Chip told Variety about the show: “Putting on a pair of roller skates is like going back to childhood. There’s something about it that everyone likes.

“Kids, adults and everyone in between will have fun watching these talented teams come together and have some crazy skating fun. We are very excited to bring this nostalgic competition to life.”

Joanna is a passionate roller skater and has already demonstrated her skills in videos shared on Instagram.

In December 2021, she posted an impressive clip of herself roller skating around her 40-acre farm in Waco, Texas, with her daughters Emmie and Ella.

“I’m reliving memories from the 80s!” she wrote. “I got a pair of ice skates for Christmas and apart from the goats, the cattle guard and the manure, it was like I was back on the ice rink!”

In the summer 2022 issue of Magnolia Journal, Joanna admitted that she couldn’t resist ordering a pair of roller skates after buying them for her daughters.

“I was Christmas shopping at the time and I had just ordered a pair of roller skates for each of our daughters from a vintage store I found online,” she said of Ella and Emma.

“Without thinking much about it, I logged back in and ordered a pair for myself – green with pink laces.”

She continued, “Lately, my skates go everywhere I go. On days when everything feels heavy or hard, I lace them up and walk around. I wore them while filming a cooking show and in the office.

“Just like with my girls, I can see it changing the faces in the room. Everything is getting a little clearer. People too. There’s a new kind of energy in the air that no one expected.” She added: “Worry less, skate more. That’s all I care about.”
