Oasis announces North American tour dates

NEW YORK — Oasis announced the North American leg of its tour on Monday after selling out shows in the UK and Ireland.

The Britpop rockers said they would play late next summer in Toronto, Mexico City, Chicago, Los Angeles and East Rutherford, New Jersey, where there is a stadium outside New York.

“America. Oasis is coming. You have one last chance to prove that you have loved us all along,” the band said in a statement.

Oasis, whose hits include “Wonderwall,” “Don’t Look Back In Anger” and “Champagne Supernova,” last played together in 2009.

The news that brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher have put aside their infamous 15-year feud and reunited for a series of concerts has sent fans into a frenzy.

The chaotic scramble for prized tickets to 17 original concerts resulted in sudden, large price increases – known as dynamic pricing – hours of online waiting and the hopes of some dashed by technical glitches.

This sparked fury from many fans, and the UK’s competition watchdog said it was investigating Ticketmaster over the way it conducted sales.

In response to the confusion, the band scheduled two further shows in the UK, with the brothers denying they had anything to do with the dynamic pricing.

America is no stranger to ticket chaos: Ticketmaster’s pricing practices for concerts and other events, which include high fees and a lack of alternatives, have long been a political issue in the United States, and little has been done in the past to open the market to more competition.

The 2022 pre-sale of Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ came as lawmakers in Washington held hearings questioning Ticketmaster’s parent company, Live Nation – the giant concert promotion company – over its practices.

Earlier this year, the US Department of Justice filed a major antitrust lawsuit in an attempt to break up the alleged monopoly between Live Nation Entertainment and its subsidiary Ticketmaster.
