Palmer has been left out of Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League squad this season in order to prioritize resting him ahead of the Premier League clash amid new, tighter competition schedules in the European League phase.

Chelsea did not play in Europe at all last season after finishing 12th in 2022-23.

Meanwhile, eagle-eyed fans were quick to point out the three Ballon d’Or contenders who took their places in the rankings PLEASANTLY below Palmer in terms of goals scored.

One of them wrote: “A certain favorite for the Ballon d’Or is in 16th place,” referring to Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior.

Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham is currently 39th on the list, behind PFA Player of the Year Phil Foden who is 21st.

Brighton coach Fabian Hurzeler admitted that Palmer is the best individual Brighton has faced this season.

The Seagulls had already played Arsenal and Manchester United, taking points from both, but suffered their first defeat of the season at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca also shared the same views as his team climbed to fourth place in the table.

Maresca said: “Goals, assists, the best player in the Premier League, it doesn’t change who he is.

“He’s a simple guy, a humble guy and that’s the most important thing.”

When asked who he would choose to save his life, Chelsea star Cole Palmer chose a shocking Premier League cult hero.

Palmer, 22, is an expert spot kicker who has scored all of the 15 goals he has scored in his four-year career.

However, if his life depended on it, the winger would choose someone else to come onto the pitch and take the penalty for him – and this is not an ordinary choice.

The former Manchester City star would go with none other than Mario Balotelli as he remembers how dominant he was when it was just him and the opposing goalkeeper.

You can see why Palmer would choose Balotelli here.

The 22-year-old has been in sensational form since joining from City for £40m last summer.

England fans called for Palmer to start during the national team’s race to the Euro 2024 final, but he limited himself to appearances from the bench.

Nevertheless, he scored England’s only goal in the 2-1 final defeat against Spain and assisted Watkins’ late winner in the semi-final victory over the Netherlands.
