Sexual assault on a minor student: parents protest and demand action against school authorities

The parents of a five-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a school van driver last week, along with members of a right-wing group, protested outside the school on Monday and demanded action against the school authorities in addition to closure, pending an investigation.

Rajesh Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (city), said the girl’s parents had lodged an additional complaint with the police, alleging the involvement of the principal, coordinator and transport managers. (Representative image)

The girl was allegedly sexually abused and raped for over a week by the driver of the school van, and after her family approached the Ghaziabad police on September 26, the driver was arrested.

Based on the family’s complaint, the police registered an FIR at Kavi Nagar police station under section 65 section 2 Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (rape of a woman under twelve years of age) and also imposed provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act in case of sexual penetration. assault on a detained driver.

The girl’s family said they were sending their children to school in the hope that the authorities would protect them from such disturbing incidents.

“We have filed an additional complaint with the police seeking action against the school authorities – the principal, coordinator and transport managers. They cannot simply evade responsibility for a crime that continued with a child for over a week. Authorities should also order the school to be closed pending an investigation, otherwise evidence related to the case may be falsified. We appealed to the officials many times, but they did not listen to us,” said the girl’s father.

Satyam Pandit of the Rashtriya Hindu Vir Sena said the girl’s parents ran asking for help and justice.

“The police did not take any action against the school authorities. They seem to assume that this is some minor incident and that the school authorities will not be responsible if a student is raped. If officials do not take action against the school authorities, it will set a bad precedent. They have just arrested lower-level staff – the driver and female employees. Nobody listens to our parents and that’s why we are with them. Our protest will continue until the girl gets justice,” Pandit said.

After arresting the driver, the police also detained two employees who were taking care of students in the school van.

“The incident with the girl occurred in the van and neither of them objected to the act or took steps to protect the child. Therefore, they were arrested,” said the policeman.

The school’s principal did not respond to calls or messages seeking a response.

Rajesh Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (city), said the girl’s parents had lodged an additional complaint with the police, alleging the involvement of the principal, coordinator and transport managers.

“We have accepted their complaint and it will be taken into account in the investigation into the matter and an inquiry will be conducted. The allegations made by the girl’s parents against the school authorities were forwarded to the district authorities. The education department will conduct an inquiry into the alleged lapses,” the DCP said.
