Johnny Depp opened the doors to his first art exhibition in New York.

The 61-year-old actor revealed his photo lots of things an animated and experiential exhibition at a special preview event held on Monday, September 30 in Manhattan, surrounded by family, friends, fans and peers from the international art community.

Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer was present at the opening, hugging Depp as they posed for photos together. Depp’s sister Christi Dembrowski was also in attendance, as well as director Jim Jarmusch, actor Justin Bartha, photographer Bob Gruen, DJ Tiana Verhagen and more.

Smoking in the gallery space, Depp wore a hat and sunglasses as he smiled and laughed as he greeted guests.

The exhibition includes works by Depp dating back to the early 1920s, as well as the Oscar nominee’s personal artifacts and ephemera from his homes and art studios.

Last month, Depp said in a statement to PEOPLE: “Despite the magic and madness of life, art was my sanctuary. These works, created at different stages of my journey, are remnants of a life lived. Creating is not always a comfortable process, but for me it is a necessary process.

The exhibit comes from BAUART, creator of museums, exhibitions and experiences, in collaboration with Pantheon Art and its partners TAIT. The place is represented by Kagency.

BAUART co-founder Guy Vesey said in a previous statement: “Johnny Depp is known around the world as an actor, director and musician. What is less known is that art played a very personal and very important role in his life from childhood.”
