The first six episodes Love is blind The DC season on Netflix has come to an end, and we’re recapping all the drama – and top Washington moments – throughout the series. Are you tuning in? Check out our Love Is Blind DC drinking and bingo game.

Let’s get on with it.

The pods are open, the golden cups are filled, it’s time to meet our singles! Since we’re trying to condense six episodes of infatuation and heartbreak into one summary, I’ll go through the initial group of episodes, pair by pair.

Hannah and Nick Dorka

Let’s start with our most chaotic dynamic, the romantic polycule: Hannah, Leo, and Nick Dorka, followed by Hannah, Leo, and Brittany (more on that below). Despite the show’s premise about dating without pretences, these four people are literally interchangeable.

I have to spare some space here for Nick Dorce – he’s “stupid with an A”, as he put it. Nick Dorka, former kicker at William & Mary a combination of all the Arlington men I’ve ever passed on Bumble. If you combined all the people from Whitlow’s who order the Kona Big Wave tower at the JMU watch party, you’d get Nick Dorka. Although it takes encouragement from the other women, Hannah finally recognizes that Nick Dorka, a real estate agent from Virginia, is a good salesman for more than just houses. But she’s addicted, stuck between him and Leo, the art dealer.

Caught in a triangle, Dorka’s Nick decides he’s out the door. Instead, Hannah calls him back to the pods for their date, fearing that he has already left. Girls, this man is not leaving television voluntarily!!!! When she overcomes her fear, he will break her heart, Hannah decides to accept Nicholas Frederick Dorka Jr.’s proposal.

In the pod, Hannah and Nick Dorka share their appearance insecurities. So maybe we shouldn’t be surprised that the reveals are a little shorter: They both note that she’s taller, and she thinks he misrepresented her height and build. He also has many questions about her appearance: Does she dye her hair? Does she have lip injections? Would she decide to have plastic surgery? Things get even worse when they are in Mexico and Dorka’s Nick is riding a fake duck. (Yes, this really causes a lot of drama). Hannah, horrified by the thought of a man riding any horse, donkey or duck, tells him that it makes her “sick” – that instant click of disgust you feel when your crush does something terrible. Is this a death sentence for Nick Dorka?!

Drama Forecast: At the end of episode 6, Nick Dorka tells the boys about IckGate and that he found a note Hannah wrote that said ten things about him, including “too concerned about his feelings?” and “self-confidence vs. cockiness.” The last item on the list is the dagger in our Northern Virginia man’s heart: “delulu.”

Leon and Brittany

If I had to pick a pod villain, I’d go with Leo. Leo, please make it clear that this will be the case My money, not yours. The man is absolutely terrified that women will pursue him for his money, which they will only find out about because he tells them. (Leo at one point literally says to the men, “I have money.”) The art dealer runs his family company, Capital Art Advisory, and I wouldn’t be surprised if, as a Rolex brand ambassador, he also had additional activities: His watch okhe appears not once… not twice… but three times in episode 1 alone. There is also a mention of his private school background (Saint’s School Stephen and St. Agnieszkaaccording to LinkedIn) and a country club upbringing. Perhaps the most inspiring moment of the montage is when Leo tells in a confessional how, as an ordinary bambino, he learned the Italian words for art. What word does he choose to show this insight? Sprezzaturaselected carelessness.

Leo finds himself between Hannah and Brittany, a beautician from Baltimore. (It’s not DC, but we’re pretty sure Leo lives in New York anyway.) He casts his spell on them both, calling Brittany twice that she’s so smart, even though people probably think she’s not because of her voice. In Love is blind in a universe where your voice is the first impression, it’s the closest you’ll get to catching someone’s eye. With Hannah, he also becomes quite vulnerable: “I’m going to lead something I’m not sure about,” he boldly states. “Obviously, I am incredibly blessed financially.” They solve this deep-seated self-esteem problem by deciding that Internet users will be laid back.

After juggling both women, Hannah drops out of the running and Leo proposes to Brittany. After the reveal, Leo lists the reasons why he loves her. In response, he just… well, he can’t find anything to say.

Drama Forecast: 100% chance of breaking up. We revealed the couple one last time: They were not among the couples invited by producers to appear on the show in Mexico, and they broke off their engagement a few weeks later. With all that said, Leo, I’m single and living on a journalist’s salary!

Marisa and Rameses

Hannah/Nick Dorka/Leo/Brittany/Leo’s Rolex aren’t the only ones with overlap. We also get a love triangle with Marissa, Ramses and Bohdan, and immediately the series gains dynamics: Bohdan is a male military man, and Ramses is our sensitive feminist king. When asked about her type, Marissa tells Rameses that there really isn’t one. Her example? She dated a conservative Trump supporter for three years, and then a liberal progressive.

Marissa also raises this issue in her conversation with Bohdan, noting that her ex-MAGA man simply thinks differently about how society works. This is not a problem for Bohdan, who will not vote for Trump. He even recalls January 6: “Are you going to vote for the guy who tried to overthrow the government?”

Despite her chemistry with Bohdan, Marissa chooses Rameses. We don’t know if he’s a liberal or a conservative, but we do Down knowing he’s a Cancer/Leo/Leo, so that’s something. Marissa says she always wanted to date a guy like him but never did because she thought they were too soft. This doesn’t seem to be a problem in Mexico: I think we can safely honor this couple as our official horny couple.

Drama Forecast: Tearing down the walls of the pod seems to help them, but there’s an awful lot of talk about masculinity, so it’s worth watching.

Monika and Stefan

Come on, it’s DC season – you know Marissa wasn’t the only one bringing up politics. Monica, a sales director, and Stephen, an electrician, talk about the past relationships on the first date, but only on the second date do we get an October surprise: Stephen’s past voting results. The veteran begins by establishing that he voted in the last two elections, but “it was difficult” because he had feelings for both candidates.

Stephen voted for Trump in 2016 because he didn’t like Clinton, and then he voted for Biden in 2020 because he didn’t like how 45 people were handling his term. “I’m very centrist,” he says, showing Monica that he’s the kind of guy who can walk down the aisle, whether it’s politics or getting married. Monica is unfazed by this, enchanted by the story he shares about growing up in Italy, but thanks to a test on ancestry.com, she learns that his heritage comes from several places in Africa that are known not to be Italian.

Despite a smooth proposal and revealing details, trouble begins to arise after an argument with other couples in Mexico. When we leave them at the end of episode 6, Monica is complaining that she can’t get a word in.

Drama Forecast: Beyond the talkativeness, it seems like we’re setting ourselves up for some conflict in Washington: Monica has mentioned more than once that she usually chooses a man with a strong resume, contrasting this with her fiancé’s background. The editors seem to agree: Why else would they keep the clip of Stephen saying he doesn’t really like champagne?

Taylor and Garrett

Our first couple to go from pod to proposal is a nerdy couple of two fiercely independent, ambitious people: he’s a doctor and she could have been stunt double for Olivia Munn, but instead opted for a career in clean energy policy consulting . Yes, our only consultant in the group has found love! This is a true DC fairy tale. Taylor’s fiancé charms her by comparing her to Shrek (luckily for him, we are still in a period of invisibility) and the movie becomes a piece of the movie for both of them.

Drama Forecast: Taylor seemed nervous about Garrett knowing her ethnicity before revealing the information, but that seemed to calm her down. On a beach in Mexico, Garrett mentions that two “professionally aggressive” people need to make a life together. Could this be a Washington workaholics thread?

Ashley A. and Tyler

Another instant connection, the pair bond over horseback riding and their shared desire for pod diving. Ssays that the day before her wedding, she always wanted to go skydiving with her fiancé, and if the duo makes it that far, we’re expecting a parachute scene in the future – Chekhov’s parachute, if you will. He proposes on his birthday and there is love and good vibes in Mexico.

Drama Forecast: Our easy-going couple seems bulletproof in the first six episodes… but let’s see what happens when they get back to the Beltway.

Alex and Tim

They start out as one of our more serious couples, and Tim and Alex’s time in the pod centered around his family: his two sisters died, and he gave Alex a bracelet that his older sister gave to his middle sister, and she wears it when he suggests it.

However, everything begins to change with the reveal. “There’s only a fool in me,” he tells her. As an experienced disease detector, it is clear to me that she has been infected. Tim, if you know what’s good for you, it’s time to tame this dude!!!!

Unfortunately, the barking is getting louder in Mexico. Not only does he “come out” again, but he even says “woof, woof” and I see him getting ready to go into the ocean. It’s clear that she may be permanently in the pooch’s house while they go shopping: she has a lot to say about his sun hat, his gray hair, and even how he eats corn. The next morning after the mixer we discover that Alex and Tim had an argument the night before. He lost control of himself and she covered his mouth with her hand. Needless to say, this goes beyond sick territory.

Drama Forecast: The rapid spread of the disease is enough for me to declare this affair in the danger zone. Add to that a fight in full swing? These are curtains in 3…2…1….

  1. In the pods, Nick Dorka talks to one of the women about her work in professional football. “Please tell me it’s the Commanders,” he says. He jokes that they’re the better team, the Ravens. Let’s be clear: both teams play in Maryland, but only one is the first team Washington Football team.
  2. After the engagement, Garrett tells Taylor that he doesn’t think they would be talking “on The Hill”. (Capitals courtesy of Netflix captions). He then refers to himself as a “country idiot from Fredericksburg, Virginia,” and we will ask the city of Fredericksburg for comment.
  3. Remake Note: Tim tells fashion-loving Alex that the heroine of the movie will be “The devil wears Pradamodern melanized DC version.” As a magazine editor in DC, I completely agree.

On their first day in Mexico, Nick Dorka informs Hannah that he doesn’t kiss or tell. The reason why? “I have not a painting, but a brand at home.” I just need to find out more about this famous brand. His Instagram bio says his personal brand is “real estate matchmaker,” so I’m not entirely sure what the problem is.

The series features sisters for the first time in history – one of them is: Washington Post Office employee – and they won’t even acknowledge it once on camera? Democracy truly dies in darkness.
