‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ Breaks Record with Digital Release

Marvel’s dark superhero comedy “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which opened in July to historic box office success, continues to break records following its theatrical release.

Just a day after Deadpool and Wolverine’s digital premiere on Monday, the Shawn Levy-directed film became the “top day one seller” of 2024 on Fandango’s streaming service Fandango at Home, the movie retail company announced in a press release .

Upon its theatrical release, the film broke Fandango’s record for highest opening weekend ticket sales for an R-rated film, beating 2015’s Fifty Shades of Grey, as well as the record for highest opening weekend ticket sales in 2024.

“Deadpool and Wolverine,” starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the title roles, earned $211 million at the domestic box office in its debut weekend, by far the biggest opening ever for an R-rated film, according to Disney. The record was previously held by the original “Deadpool ”, which debuted in 2016 with $132.4 million.

According to Box Office Mojo, the big box office also had its sixth-biggest opening weekend ever, and it premiered just ahead of “Jurassic World” and behind “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”

Worldwide, “Deadpool and Wolverine” grossed as much as $1.3 billion during its theatrical release.

The film received a rating of ★★★½ from USA TODAY film critic Brian Truitt, who called “Deadpool and Wolverine” “a wonderfully meta, proudly gonzo comedy ensemble, wildly brutal, often hilarious, sometimes touching and always good.” time.”
