In a development that further fueled speculations, senior Congress ministers G Parameshwara, HC Mahadevappa and Satish Jarkiholi held a meeting late on Tuesday evening, Times of India reported.

According to Time of India, the meeting has sparked discussions in political circles, with many speculating that ministers will seek the top job in the event of a leadership change. It added that the meeting took place at Mahadevappa’s official residence and lasted about two hours.

Chief Minister of SC/ST?

According to a TOI report, ministers are intensifying efforts to woo a leader from the Scheduled Caste (SC) or Scheduled Tribe (ST) community to succeed Siddaramaiah.

In this trio, Satish Jarkiholi hails from the ST community and G Parameshwara and HC Mahadevappa represent the SC category.

Siddaramaiah and MUDA ‘scam’

In the wake of Siddaramaiah’s setback, the Karnataka High Court on September 24 dismissed his petition challenging Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s consent to initiate an inquiry against him in the MUDA land allotment case, stating that the governor’s order at no point “suffers from lack of unreasonableness”.

The recent Supreme Court judgment has intensified demands for Siddaramaiah’s resignation, which has been called for by both the BJP and factions within his own party.

On September 26, the BJP staged a protest calling on Siddaramaiah to step down. In response, the Prime Minister rejected these allegations, calling them a “conspiracy” organized by the BJP and firmly ruled out the possibility of his resignation.

Supporting Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also rejected any notion of the chief minister stepping down. He reaffirmed that the entire Congress party is united in its support for Siddaramaiah.
