The fourth season of Blue Exorcist is divided into two parts: the Beyond the Snow Saga, which focuses on the Kirigakure Shura, and the Blue Night Saga, which explores the mysterious circumstances surrounding the birth of Rin and Yukio.

Who is the Blue Exorcist?

Blue Exorcist is a Japanese manga series written by Kazue Kato. It tells the story of Rin Okumura, a seemingly ordinary high school student who discovers that he is the son of Satan, the King of Gehenna (hell).

After his adoptive father, a powerful exorcist, is killed by demons, Rin decides to enroll in the Academy of the True Cross, a prestigious school for exorcists, to train and fight against demonic forces.

The manga began serialization on Jump Square in 2009 and has since been adapted into an anime series, an original video animation (OVA), and a live-action film. The anime adaptation, produced by A-1 Pictures, premiered in 2011.

The anime adaptation has four seasons at the time of writing.

Season 1 launched in 2011, adapting the first 11 volumes of the popular manga.

Season 2, titled Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga, was released in 2017 and continued the story, focusing on Rin and Yukio’s training at True Cross Academy in Kyoto.

Season 3, Blue Exorcist Shimane Illuminati Saga, premiered in January 2024 and introduced a new threat to the world of exorcism.

Season 4, The Blue Exorcist Beyond the Snow Saga, will air in October 2024.

Summary of the third season of Blue Exorcist

Season 3 of Blue Exorcist, Shimane Illuminati Saga, tells the story of Rin and his classmates as they investigate mysterious events in Shimane Prefecture. A powerful being, the King of Light, desires to revive Satan and declares war on the Order of the True Cross.

The story begins when Rin’s classmate, Sei Godaiin, begins to see demons. Rin and his friends uncover a conspiracy involving the Illuminati, a secret organization planning to kidnap Izumo to serve as a vessel for a powerful fox demon. It turns out that the leader of the Illuminati, Lucifer (King of Light), is the mastermind.

The climax of the season is the battle in the underground Illuminati facility. Rin defeats the zombies, but chaos ensues when Michael Gedoin launches another zombie attack. Izumo, possessed by the Nine-Tails, tries to maintain control.

With the help of their mother, Tamamo, Izumo and the team foil the Illuminati’s plans. The season ends with a spa party hosted by Mephisto as a reward for their hard work.
