Big things are happening in the new season Real Housewives of New York, especially for the new apple owner and her other half.

Art curator, model and RHONY newcomer Racquel Chevremont is one of the newest housewives – along with Rebecca Minkoff – to join the cast of season 15. Introduced to the others by fashion guru Jenna Lyons, Racquel is the second queer woman to join the cast, introducing her fiancée, Mel, to the rest of the gang.

Racquel headed to Jenna’s eye-catching Soho apartment and joined the former J. Crew president in her famous shoe closet. Nancy, the mother of Jenny’s girlfriend Cass Bird, also joined the women when Racquel brought up her relationship with Mel.

“Mel and I have been friends for over 12 years,” Racquel told producers. “When we met, we were very lonely, but there was a little scandal. There were a few people who weren’t that happy.”

Racquel said that Mel had never been with a man before, and when she met Racquel’s mother, she was still married to her ex.

What Racquel and Jenna have in common is that they are both queer women and both came out around the same time, in the early 2010s. By this time, Jenna and Racquel were already married, which Jenna described as a “crazy story.”

Racquel mentioned that Jenna has been a huge support to her during her coming out.

“I met Jenna in 2012 when she was going through a divorce and leaving the house, and I was doing the same thing,” Racquel said in a confessional. “It almost confirmed what I was going through. I don’t know what I would have done if I hadn’t met someone else who was going through the exact same thing.”

Racquel and Mel began seeing each other after Racquel and renowned visual artist Mickalene Thomas broke off their engagement in July 2020. The former flames were a power couple called Deux Femmes Noires (Two Black Women), who had a major influence on the New York art scene, but they split after 11 years together, it said Page six.

“We have ended our long-term personal relationship, but we remain committed to completing our current projects as Deux Femmes Noires,” Thomas stated in a joint statement to the outlet.

Sources say Page six in 2022 that Racquel and Thomas severed their romantic ties two years earlier but remained partners in their profession.

Look back two years later and it looks like Racquel is living her best life with Mel. Although little about Mel has been revealed in RHONY Season 15 premieres. An Instagram photo from May 2024 showed Racquel, Mel, and Racquel’s two teenage children (and their furry friends) enjoying a delicious meal.

“I’m a happy mom,” Racquel wrote with a blue heart emoji.

Mel also appeared in Racquel’s August 2024 montage, in which Racquel stated, “Love and laughter are the two most important things in life.”

By the end of the episode, Mel was already enjoying the company of her fellow housewives, including Brynn Whitfield, Ubah Hassan, Erin Lichy, Jessel Taank and Sai De Silva.
