Hurricane Helene Live Updates: Helene is the deadliest hurricane on the continent since Katrina

Before Wednesday’s briefing in Augusta, Georgia, Vice President Kamala Harris thanked officials for their work in response to Hurricane Helene and recovery efforts.

In her remarks, Harris thanked “everyone who is here on the ground doing this extraordinary work.”

“I have read and heard about the work you have done over the last few days, and I think it truly represents the best of what each of us knows can be done, especially as we coordinate efforts across local, state and federal resources to meet the needs of people who need to be seen and heard,” she said.

“These are very difficult times and I think in a moment of crisis it really brings out the best in us. And you, each of us, embody this important and good work,” Harris added. “So I’m here to thank you and listen.”
