The 10 highest-grossing films of 2024 so far

2024 is slowly coming to an end and it has been a great year so far, especially for movie fanatics. This year brought us some huge movies, including Deadpool and Wolverine. While there are still a few months left and some upcoming films may surprise us at the box office, we already have more than we expected in terms of successful films. With that in mind, we’re breaking down some of the best and highest-grossing movies of 2024 (so far).

1. Inside out 2

• Release date: June 14, 2024
• Budget: 200 million dollars
• Ticket office: $1.675 billion

Inside Out 2 is one of the highly anticipated sequels that fans have been waiting for since the end of the first part, which was released in 2015. Inside Out made viewers aware of what a valuable animated film should look like. The animation and thought-provoking scenes in the 2015 film made it a classic. And it cannot be denied that the second film met fans’ expectations.

The film takes place several years after its predecessor. We meet 15-year-old Riley, who has difficulty figuring out “Who is she?” Well, this is something that most of us fail to understand during adolescence. 2. Deadpool and Wolverine

• Ticket office: $1.287 billion

Deadpool & Wolverine is the most unique part of the series, where the title finally finds its place in the vast world of the MCU. In addition, it shows the collaboration of two of the most iconic heroes, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Despite some shortcomings, such as the wasted potential of Cassandra Nova, the film gained considerable acclaim thanks to surprising scenes, Easter eggs, first-rate cinematography and, of course, chemistry between the main characters.

The film tells the story of Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, who teams up with an alternate reality Wolverine to save the Sacred Timeline from the Time Deviation Authority.

3. Mean Me 4

• Release date: July 3, 2024
• Budget: 100 million dollars
• Ticket office: $948.6 million

We already know the popularity of the Despicable Me series, but let’s not be afraid to admit that the fourth part is the best of all so far. The new characters presented in the film will intrigue in every respect, and as usual, humorous scenes will not allow you to sit still; instead, they will make your stomach hurt and make you laugh even harder.

4. Dune: part two

Most of the time, fans don’t expect much from a movie sequel, and that’s where Dune: Part Two stands out from the crowd. Whether it’s the soundtrack or the acting, everything about the movie is perfect, as we mentioned in our Dune Part Two review. To be more precise, the film is a pure work of art that exceeded the standards of cinematography and allowed us to see the true potential of the Sci-fi genre.

After the events of the first film, in Dune: Part Two, Paul Atreides unites with the Fremen and Chani. Together, the trio seeks revenge on those who destroyed it and faces threats that may lead to the destruction of the universe.

5. Godzilla X Kong: A New Empire

• Release date: March 29, 2024
• Budget: $135-150 million
• Ticket office: $568.7 million

What makes a kaiju movie successful? It’s CGI, right? Well, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire managed to win the hearts of global fandom thanks to its impressive CGI. It’s visually appealing and, most importantly, it’s fun to watch Kong and Godzilla work together. Even though there are humans in this movie, it seems like their absence doesn’t hurt the premise.

After Mechagorzilla’s death, Godzilla and Kong must unite to fight the King of Scars, who intends to bring disaster to the surface world.

6. Kung Fu Panda 4

• Release date: March 8, 2024
• Budget: $85 million
• Ticket office: $548.9 million

Kung Fu Panda’s vibrant animation and storyline made it one of the popular series, but somehow the third film fell short of these aspects. However, Kung Fu Panda 4 did not disappoint and contained everything that the audience expected. Top-notch animation with phenomenal scenery, great voice actors and an intriguing set of new characters – the movie has it all.

Po becomes a spiritual leader who must train a new warrior. At the same time, he must also find several heroes and join forces with them to fight a sorceress who wants to obtain his staff of wisdom.

7. Bad Boys: Ride or Die

• Release date: June 7, 2024
• Budget: 100 million dollars
• Ticket office: $403.9 million

When Martin Lawrence and Will Smith are in a movie, it has to be great. Bad Boys: Ride or Die becomes a hell of a lot of fun as Will and Martin do their best to give viewers a truckload of laughs. Apart from this, the plot and fight scenes contributed a lot to the project and helped it become one of the highest-grossing films of 2024.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die tells the story of detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) as they work together to prove that their deceased captain, Conrad Howard, was innocent and not corrupt.

8. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

• Release date: May 10, 2024
• Budget: $160 million
• Ticket office: $397.4 million

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a fun installment in the series. Following Caesar’s legacy, a young chimpanzee named Noa was given her chance to shine. Visual effects and CGI added value to the project. Even though some fans lacked emotional depth, the film made the list of the top 10 highest-grossing films of 2024. If you missed the opportunity to see it in the theater, luckily “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” is now available to stream.

The film takes place after several centuries of Caesar’s story and features Noa in the main role. A young chimpanzee and a human woman named Mae decide to embark on an adventure that will ensure a good future for both species.

9. Twisters

• Release date: July 19, 2024
• Budget: $155 million
• Ticket office: $369.7 million

Even though the 2024 film is a sequel to 1996’s Twister, it appears to be a standalone project. This is because it introduces a new set of cast and characters. However, the film sticks to some elements of the original, but gives them a modern twist. Moreover, the phenomenal action doesn’t make you get up from your seats before the final scene.

A young woman, Kate, who worked as a storm chaser, must investigate devastating tornadoes heading towards Oklahoma. She initially refused the job because she was still haunted by the events that occurred when she was a teenager. However, she decides to give it a try when she meets terrifying blogger Tyler Owens. 10. Alien: Romulus

• Release date: August 16, 2024
• Budget: 80 million dollars
• Ticket office: $342.1 million

No Alien movie is bad, and when this movie was announced, every fan knew it was going to be a blockbuster. The film boasted the same brutal experience as the previous films and as expected, the creators did a great job developing the characters and building the world.

Alien: Romulus tells the story of several scientists exploring a space station that was destroyed almost 20 years ago. During their adventure, they encounter a dangerous alien life form, the Xenomorph. It’s an action-packed horror adventure that will keep you on the edge at all times.
