Special new One Piece fan letters announced featuring Luffy, Zoro, Franky and Nami as main characters

One Piece will receive a special anime spin-off titled One Piece: Fan Letter, which will premiere on Japanese television on October 20.

The event was announced via a short trailer on YouTube and is based on a book titled One Piece Novel: Straw Hat Stories and will similarly feature several shorter stories about the crew members, told by side characters who are not featured in the main One Piece story.

Only four of these stories, focusing on Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Franky, have been confirmed to appear in the special so far. It’s unclear whether the One Piece fan letter will cover the entire crew or simply leave room for further adaptations.

No information has been announced about an English release, but given the popularity of One Piece, it’s almost certain that it will come eventually.

The world of One Piece is also very busy elsewhere, as not only has the manga and anime been released for over twenty years, but the latter is also getting a remake. The show, somewhat confusingly titled The One Piece, was announced in 2023 as a complete reboot of the show, telling the same story but done in a more condensed way to trim the fat and provide a somewhat definitive viewing experience.

Netflix is also preparing to premiere the second season of the action series, in which it was recently confirmed that Lera Abova will play Nico Robin and Joe Manganiello will play the role of Crocodile.

The pair stars in Season 2 along with many new faces, including Charithra Chandran as Miss Wednesday, Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha, Mark Harelik as Dr. Hiriluk, Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefertari Cobra, Brendan Sean Murray as Brogy, Callum Kerr as Smoker, Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5, Clive Russell as Crocus, Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9, David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine, Julia Rehwald as Tashigi, Rob Colletti as Wapol, Ty Keogh as Dalton and Werner Coetser as Dorry.

Jamie Lee Curtis, who had long been expected to play Dr. Kureha after expressing interest herself and with co-showrunner Matt Owens saying “we’re writing for her at this point,” will not appear in season two after all. Production of the series is ongoing again, and Netflix plans to premiere in 2025.
