Elon Musk will attend Donald Trump’s rally, increasing hostility towards Harris

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced he will attend an upcoming rally for Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, where the former president was shot and killed.

This means Musk will attend a Republican rally for the first time, signaling a significant change in his political involvement.

Musk confirmed his presence in a post on his social media platform X, formerly Twitter, saying: “I’ll be there to support!” The tweet has amassed 9.8 million views so far.

A rally in Butler on Saturday, Oct. 5, where the Republican presidential candidate was struck by a sniper on a rooftop nearly two months ago, is expected to draw large crowds.

Musk’s public support of Trump follows a series of critical remarks directed at Vice President Harris and the current administration. In a series of posts on X, Musk escalated his criticism, expressing concerns about government policies and their impact on America’s future.

“If something isn’t done about America’s bureaucratic stranglehold, humanity will never reach the stars,” Musk wrote. He emphasized his belief that Trump’s re-election is crucial to preventing “the further expansion of oppressive big government that prevents progress.”

Musk detailed his stance on space exploration and the future of humanity. “If we don’t become multi-planetary, it’s only a matter of time before a natural or man-made disaster destroys life on Earth, just like what happened to the dinosaurs,” he said. “These choices have existential significance for life as we know it.”

Newsweek reached out to X via email seeking comment from Elon Musk.

In another post, Musk addressed concerns about government spending. In response to criticism of increased federal spending from venture capitalist and former PayPal CFO Roelaf Botha, Musk wrote: “Extreme government spending is bankrupting our country!”

Musk also took into account Vice President Harris’s political history, claiming: “Kamala’s voting record was left over Bernie Sanders when she was in the Senate! She was rated as the most extreme leftist of all 100 senators. Not moderate at all.”

He expressed concern about immigration policy, suggesting that the Democratic Party was seeking to legalize illegal immigrants for electoral gains. “The Kamala Dem machine wants to legalize all illegal immigrants, which would instantly turn all swing states blue and ensure permanent one-party rule in America!” Musk said.

The Tesla CEO also shared a link to a post in which Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer discusses immigration reform, adding: “It’s only a matter of time before illegals in swing states can legally vote. If it were up to top Democrats, they could vote now!”

Musk’s comments sparked a broader discussion about his involvement in politics, and his alliance with Trump has drawn criticism from various quarters.

Mark Cuban, billionaire entrepreneur and owner of the Dallas Mavericks, recently sent Musk a warning about his support for Trump.

In a post on X, Cuban said: “Elon, there will come a time when you will need something from Donald Trump. You will think you have earned the right to ask and receive. You were a loyal, faithful soldier to him. they supported him politically with the amount of $10 million.

“Then, at the moment when you need him most, you will learn what many have learned before, that he is only loyal to himself.”

This is not the first time Musk has faced criticism for his political involvement. In September, he faced backlash after a post about President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris that some found inappropriate. The White House condemned the post, stating that “violence should only be condemned, not encouraged or joked about.”

The U.S. Secret Service said at the time that it was “aware” of the post in which Musk claimed that “no one is even trying” to kill President Joe Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris. Shortly thereafter, Musk deleted the X post, claiming it was intended as a joke.

Musk’s relationship with the Democratic Party is increasingly strained. In August, Harris’ campaign team ridiculed Musk’s technical difficulties during a live interview with Trump on

Musk also faced criticism for his reaction to singer Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Harris. After Swift announced her support, Musk replied on X: “Okay Taylor… you win… I’ll give you a baby and I’ll protect your cats with my life.” The comment was met with backlash, with many users calling it inappropriate.

Trump welcomed Musk’s support. The former president even suggested including Musk on a “government efficiency commission” if re-elected.

During a September 5 speech at the Economic Club of New York, Trump said: “At the suggestion of Elon Musk, who has given me his complete and total support… I will create a government efficiency commission charged with conducting a full financial analysis and performance audit of the entire federal government and reporting recommendations for drastic reforms.”
