Seasonal work: here’s who will be hiring for summer in 2024

For major retailers and parcel delivery companies, it’s the holiday season to hire part-time or full-time workers.

The holiday shopping season is the busiest time of year for online and brick-and-mortar retailers, some of which have already announced promotions to encourage consumers planning to shop early for gifts.

Overall, U.S. retailers are expected to add 520,000 new jobs in the final quarter of this year, up from 564,200 in 2023, according to a report released last month by Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

While seasonal hiring is expected to be lower this year due to a softer labor market and lower consumer spending, here’s who’s hiring.

Amazon

E-commerce giant Amazon said it would hire 250,000 full-time, part-time and seasonal workers for the key shopping season.

Amazon is hiring the same number of employees as last year.

Here’s a look at seasonal work currently available.

UPS

UPS is looking for employees seasonal workers before the holiday season.

The package delivery company said on its website that it is accepting applications for seasonal and CDL drivers and package handlers.

According to UPS, almost 75% of seasonal positions do not require an interview and a candidate can receive a job offer within 10 minutes.

The base wage for package handlers is $21 per hour and the base wage for drivers is $23 per hour. You can apply here.

Objective

Retail giant Target it also employs 100,000 seasonal workers to help with order pickup and drop-off, warehousing and purchasing.

The retail giant is looking to fill positions such as guest advocate, store clerk, order fulfillment expert, general merchandising expert, food and beverage expert and style consultants. The company is also looking for employees warehouse operations jobs in their supply chain facilities.

Target’s starting wage for seasonal workers ranges from $15 to $24 per hour, with health and wellness benefits available, company release.

People interested in applying for seasonal positions can do so from September 25 by visiting the website Target website.

Dick’s Sporting Goods

Dick’s Sporting Goods said it plans to hire nearly 8,000 seasonal workers as part of a hiring drive to prepare for the upcoming holiday shopping season.

According to the retailer, employees will be brought on board to work at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Dick’s House of Sports, Public Lands and Going, Going, Gone.

Dick’s Sporting Goods said seasonal job seekers “should first apply online” before attending its local “National Signing Day” recruiting event on Oct. 8. This marks the beginning of the Christmas action.

The retailer said it will continue recruiting after Oct. 8 “until all positions are filled” for the holidays.

Aldi employs 13,000 seasonal workers

Food web Aldi also announced this that it will employ over 13,000 store and warehouse workers throughout the country for the upcoming holiday season.

Aldi is also raising the national average starting wage for Aldi store positions to $18 per hour and $23 per hour for warehouse jobs, depending on the market and position.

JCPenney

Ahead of the holiday season, JCPenney will hire over 10,000 seasonal workers across the country.

Chain of department stores – wrote in the statement that it will host a nationwide recruiting event both in stores and online from October 16-18. The event will focus on hiring truck teams in October and customer service positions specific to the November holidays.

JCPenney touted some of the incentives it offers employees, including a “flexible schedule” that includes stores closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as an employee discount of up to 25% on all purchases.

Macy’s

Macy’s will hire 31,500 workers for the holiday season.

Macy’s says it will add more than 31,500 seasonal items this year at Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury stores, as well as distribution centers. The company added 38,000 last year.
