Expert reveals Liverpool’s intriguing ‘behind the scenes’ contract announcement

Liverpool may be successful both domestically and in Europe, but a cloud of uncertainty hangs over the future of their star winger, Mohamed Salah. With Salah’s current contract expiring in the summer of 2025, speculation is mounting about behind-the-scenes discussions about a potential extension for the Egyptian legend.

Football expert Damien Delaney has strongly expressed his opinion that Liverpool should do everything in their power to keep Salah, citing his invaluable contribution to the team’s development. Delaney speculated that the club might consider offering Salah a two-year contract extension, which would ensure that one of the most important players in Liverpool’s recent history will remain at Anfield for several more seasons.

Given Salah’s key role in the team’s ongoing success, securing his future at Liverpool would not only provide stability, but also send a clear signal to the Reds that they will continue to compete at the highest level. Time will tell, however, whether Salah decides to extend his contract long-term, and both the player and the club will no doubt carefully consider their options.

Former Crystal Palace player Damien Delaney has told Virgin Media Sport what he knew about Salah’s contract scenario. Here’s what he said:

His comments underline Salah’s extraordinary impact at Anfield and the importance of his presence as Liverpool continue to compete for major trophies. Delaney’s sentiments echo those of many Liverpool fans who consider Salah irreplaceable, both in terms of his goal-scoring ability and his impact on the team.

“But a compromise needs to be found regarding his age, the amount of money he earns and the length of his contract. Since decline at this age can be quite serious, it must be addressed very quickly. He’s 32 now – maybe he’ll get another year, 18 months, two years.

“I think Liverpool are probably hiding behind the scenes and offering him a potential two-year contract. But at his age he will want four. It’s a hindrance because Liverpool can’t give him four years for that kind of money because it would end up in an awkward situation.

Liverpool are in talks with Mo Salah regarding a new contract

Salah’s continued brilliance at the age of 32 has been crucial for Liverpool and his 11 goals in just nine appearances in all competitions this season have underlined his importance. As Liverpool’s highest-paid player, earning £350,000 a week, Salah is unrivaled, despite speculation surrounding the future of key players.

Liverpool are believed to be in talks or preparing talks with Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold over contract extensions. Although Van Dijk has openly expressed his desire to extend his stay beyond 2025, Alexander-Arnold’s future remains uncertain and Real Madrid are closely monitoring his contract situation.

Retaining all three would be a significant achievement for Liverpool and would enable them to retain the core of the team that has played a key role in the club’s recent success. However, the potential challenges of pursuing contract talks amid interest from other top clubs could make the coming months crucial to Liverpool’s long-term stability.

More news from Liverpool

Salah’s Liverpool situation is becoming increasingly precarious. The threat of a mega-deal from the Saudi Pro League remains real, especially given the growing influence and financial power of Middle Eastern clubs. Salah’s enormous value, both on and off the pitch, makes him a tempting prospect for these clubs, and a sizeable offer could be hard to ignore.

While Liverpool still have time to secure the futures of Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, the clock is ticking. The club will need to act quickly and decisively to prevent losing top talent, especially given the strong interest in Alexander-Arnold from elite clubs such as Real Madrid and the lure of Saudi riches to acquire Salah. Retaining all three players is essential to maintaining the team’s competitive advantage, but growing external pressures make negotiations more urgent.
