October has been designated as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Jackson, Madison County

JACKSON, Tenn. β€” Members of a local organization supporting healthy relationships in West Tennessee gathered at town hall with local leaders to raise their voices for victims of domestic violence.

Mayor Scott Conger and Mayor AJ Massey signed a proclamation Friday designating October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month throughout Jackson-Madison County. The proclamation was presented to WRAP.

In addition to declaring October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, WRAP will host a variety of events this month to reinforce its vision of developing safe, stable and nurturing relationships.

Women’s self-defense classes taught by The Pack Martial Arts will be held on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at 605 Carriage House Drive.

Project Purple Sand will be held at 512 Roland Avenue on October 9, and Community Day will be held at the AMP Center on October 19 for a fun-filled educational day.

On October 31, a trunk or refreshments will also be available at the WRAP office.

β€œIt’s really amazing to know that you have the support of the mayors of the county where you live, the city mayor and the county mayor. Just knowing that we all came together and agreed and are fighting the same fight makes it so much easier,” said Ashley Horton, domestic violence response specialist.

If you or someone you know is in crisis or experiencing domestic violence, you can call the WRAP hotline at (800) 273-8712 to receive confidential help from a trained advocate.
