Two ribbon cutting events took place in Marietta on Friday.

Marietta Community Foundation received a mural that celebrated its mission to serve the community. For Peoples Bank, their mural was to celebrate 122 years of serving the community and the 100th anniversary of their building on Putnam Street.

Heather Allender, the CEO and Executive Director of the Marietta Community Foundation, spoke at the foundation’s mural celebration. Referencing their motto, “United Community, Unlimited Potential” she thanked everyone involved in the project for their support.

“That is what we strive to accomplish every single day … every single thing we do in this community is trying to get people to come together, there’s unlimited potential, there is nothing that we can’t accomplish.”

Alix Northrup was the artist behind the design of the mural and found herself inspired by the MCF’s mission.

“They were using the idea of united community, unlimited potential and so the idea of growth and to reflect the area in a way,” said Northrup. “Tying in the idea of nature and the landscape of the area… with growth and potential and reaching this upward movement.”

Just down an alley next to Peoples Bank was their ribbon cutting to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the building at 138 Putnam Street.

Mayor Josh Schlicher spoke during the event and celebrated Peoples Bank’s contribution to the community.

“They’ve been here as an anchor for a long time,” said Schlicher. “So very proud to have people back in downtown Marietta and to support everything they do.”

CEO of Peoples Bank Tyler Wilcox was proud for the bank to have such a solid basis in the Marietta community and said that he felt the mural was a love letter to Marietta.
