Newcastle United have warned a key figure could leave after behind the scenes…

Newcastle United have been warned that Eddie Howe may leave the club after breaking down his relationship with sporting director Paul Mitchell.

The 46-year-old continues to do a great job on Tyneside as the Magpies sit seventh in the Premier League table.

However, Mitchell’s arrival from Monaco in the summer after Dan Ashworth’s decision to join Manchester United worried the former Bournemouth manager.

The pair’s working relationship is rumored to have reached crisis point after a disappointing transfer window in which Mitchell failed to sign Marc Guehi; Howe’s main target and potential move to the marquee.

And since the two characters were no longer talking backstage after Mitchell’s arrival found him excluding Howe from an important meeting, fans were warned that Howe might throw in the towel.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Premier League scout Mick Brown admitted he ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if the Amersham-born tactician ‘left’ St. James’ Park.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he left.” Brown said.

“It wouldn’t surprise me because he’ll get to a stage where he’ll think, ‘I’m the manager, I’m responsible for everything, I have to pay the bills for everything,’ but that’s not the case. the one who makes the decisions.”

“He won’t have it. This is a classic case of lack of cooperation between the sports director and the manager.

“I have seen this happen many times and have seen very few examples where it has worked well.

“I hear that the current situation is creating a state of instability in the club. This can’t be good.

“You get to the stage where the sporting director tries to bring in players that the manager doesn’t want, so where do you go from there?

“Some of the statements made by the sports director criticizing his decisions are absolutely terrible.

“Everyone you talk to who had anything to do with him says Eddie Howe is very good at his job.”

In his three years in the Northeast, Howe, who signed a long-term contract in 2022, averaged an impressive 1.73 points per game.

He has recently been heavily linked with the possibility of replacing Erik Ten Hag at Manchester United, while discussions continue to take place within the Red Devils’ new hierarchy over the Dutchman’s future.
