The student sexual shame teacher from Dumfries has remarried and has children more than a decade later

It turned out that the TEACHER found naked on a bay with a teenage student, who moaned: “I am not invited to children’s parties”, is now a happily married mother of two children.

Eppie Sprung Dawson was jailed for having sex with a 17-year-old schoolgirl after police found her in a car with the teenager.

But on Thursday the 38-year-old, who was placed on the sex offenders’ register in 2013 for six months after committing the offence, called BBC Radio Scotland to lament the “stigma” she faced.

The radio caller discussed prison reform and revealed that she “wasn’t invited to her daughter’s friends’ birthday parties.”

Now it has come to light that the former teacher has remarried.

According to the Mail, Sprung, who uses her maiden name, fell in love with Chris Atkinson, who runs her own construction company.

The couple married at Cheylesmore Manor House in Coventry in September 2021, followed by a reception at a local cocktail bar.

In a popular Facebook post, Chris mentioned that he felt “happy and relaxed” during the nuptials, adding: “We had a great time!”

Other posts on the site show them caring for their son and daughter.

In a recent interview, she revealed that when she first tried in vitro fertilization to conceive a daughter five years ago, she was told her past might prevent her from receiving treatment.

A friend told the Mail: “Eppie was at her lowest point after her conviction. She lost the career she loved and her marriage fell apart. Now she is happy again and looks forward to the future. She put what happened in her memory in the past.”

She admitted having sexual contact with a person under 18 years of age while she was his teacher and in a position of trust.

In December 2012, after the school’s Christmas party, Sprung Dawson drove the teenager to a secluded retreat and had sex with him.

A police patrol noticed the couple on the car windows and found them in the front seat.

Sprung Dawson, then 26, taught English at St Joseph’s College, Dumfries.

She agreed to give the dyslexic teenager extra lessons, but as a result of the disgrace, she lost her job and her marriage.

Judge George Jamieson decided to spare Sprung Dawson a prison sentence following her conviction at Dumfries Sheriff Court in 2013.

He told her, “You were there only to teach, but you were led into temptation and committed adultery.

“Your marriage is over and your teaching career is over. You have been accused of breach of trust.

“I don’t see anything being gained by a prison sentence.

“If it weren’t for the fact that you were this young man’s teacher, there would be no crime.”

Sprung Dawson moved in with the teenager in her marital home less than two months after she was placed on the sex offenders’ register.

However, the teenager stated that they were not in a relationship and later moved out.

After Sprung’s conviction, Dawson was struck off the teaching roll and has since set up the charity Next Chapter Scotland.

The charity “helps anyone who has had contact with the criminal justice system overcome the stigma and discrimination they may face throughout their lives.”

On the Next Chapter Scotland website, CEO Sprung says: “When my children grow up and have to face the inevitable consequences of my own beliefs, I hope they will feel proud that I am at least doing something useful with this experience.”

When Huw Edwards pleaded guilty to taking indecent images of children earlier this year, she was quick to compare her situation to that of a shamed BBC News reader.

In her post on X, she wrote: “One of the unique things about being convicted of a sex crime is the way society erases every good thing you have ever done before that moment.

“As if nothing good you did in the past mattered anymore. Seeing all this take a toll on Huw Edwards makes me sad.”
