The episode started right where Season 1 ended, with Jinpachi Ego informing the 35 remaining Blue Lock players about their upcoming match against the Japan U-20 national soccer team.

Ego named the top six Blue Lock players based on Team World Five’s comprehensive player evaluation and his rating.

Blue Castle Top 6

THIRD PLAYER OF CHOICE DEGREE
Rin Itoshi 1
Ryusei Shido 2
Tabitha Karasu 3
Eita Otoya 4
Kenyu Yukimiya 5
Seishiro Nagi 6

Ego then explained the next stage of the competition: the third selection. The top six players will be divided into three teams based on their ranking, and the remaining 29 players will decide which pair they want to team up with.

Each of the 29 players had to form five teams, adding three players to one of the top 6 duos.

Each team would play a five-on-five match, with trial matches to determine who would make the Blue Lock team for their upcoming match against the Japanese U-20 team. Due to the number of players, Meguru Bachira, the top six runner-up, will be put on two trial matches.

Ego then physically separated the top 6 players and allowed the remaining 29 candidates to evaluate which team they wanted to join in the next 24 hours.

He emphasized to the candidates that the key to the success of the Third Selection is “affirmation and coexistence.” He emphasized that the top six had an advantage in terms of individual skill, which meant the remaining players had to find a way to be useful to the higher-ranked players.

Blue Lock’s director emphasized that their mission shouldn’t end there: he wanted them to use the top 6 as a springboard to even greater improvement.

The remaining Team Z players gathered in the cafeteria, remembering their teammates who did not survive, including Rensuke Kunigami, who they believed would advance. Gurimu Igarashi revealed that Shido pushed Kunigami out of the competition.

Yoichi Isagi considered his best option: joining forces with Rin or Seishiro Nagi. If Isagi had chosen Nagi, he could have used the “chemical reaction” strategy they used during the Second Selection, which worked well due to their strong chemistry.

Isagi also considered taking a risk and realizing his unknown potential by teaming up with Rin.

Meanwhile, Rin and Shido showed that they did not get along. Ego interrupted the conflict between the two top players and revealed his expectations: he wanted them to use other players as tools to become the best strikers in the world and under no circumstances should they give up the top spot.

Ultimately, it turned out that Isagi decided to cooperate with Rin and Shido.

In one of the final scenes, Hirotoshi Buratsuta, special adviser to the Japan Football Association, talked to Yasumori Hoichi, coach of the U-20 team. Buratsuta mentioned that the Blue Lock vs. Japan U-20 match has already generated a lot of interest, with many fans purchasing tickets in advance. He stressed that under no circumstances should the U-20 team lose to the Blue Lock team.

The episode ended with U-20 team captain Oliver Aiku eager to take on the challenge.
