Colorado home where Chris Watts murdered pregnant wife and children finds buyer after price drop

Watts killed his wife Shanann and their two young daughters, Bella and Celeste, at the property in August 2018 and was later sentenced to life in prison.

After nearly three months on the market, the Colorado property where Chris Watts murdered his pregnant wife and two young daughters appears to have found a buyer.

According to land records, the Frederick, Colorado, home has been listed for sale since Wednesday, July 3. It was first listed in April for $775,000, PEOPLE reported, and then had its price lowered to $750,000 in late April.

A second price drop in May put the home up for sale at $749,500. The 4,177-square-foot property has five bedrooms and four bathrooms, and the nearby Colorado Rocky Mountains can be seen from the home.

Rovena Flores of Dream Real Estate currently holds the listing.

The house played a major role in the September 2020 Netflix documentary American Murder: The Family Next Doorwhich delves into Watts’ motivations behind the murders.

It also explains how the property became a crime scene after Watts strangled his wife Shanann – who was 15 weeks pregnant with their son at the time – and smothered their two young daughters Bella, four, and Celeste, three.

Authorities say Chris’ motive behind the unthinkable crimes was the result of an affair with his co-worker who believed he was already separated from Shanann before committing the murders.

He was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to the murders in November 2018 to avoid a possible death sentence.

The Watts family purchased the Colorado home in 2013 for $399,954. For nearly four years after the 2018 crimes, the home sat vacant until it was purchased in 2022 for $600,000, according to property records.

Chris later defaulted on his mortgage after the murders and the lender foreclosed on the property. His debts increased when he agreed to pay Shanann’s parents $6 million after they filed a wrongful death lawsuit against him.

PEOPLE has reached out to real estate agent Flores for comment but has not yet received a response.
