Nolan Allaer has announced that he will not finish the Indy Nxt season as he wants to focus on preparing himself and his budget for the 2025 campaign.

The 22-year-old finished sixth in the BRSCC National Formula Ford 1600 race (the Honda-powered equivalent of the American Formula 1600 with a Ford engine) and 16th in last year’s FFord Festival. He also won the SCCA National Runoff in Formula F.

He had only “a little downforce experience” in staggered-wing cars, winning the 2023 Formula Continental qualifying round and taking part in the GB3 test, before making a surprise promotion to the second-tier Indy Nxt Series with HMD Motorsports.

Allaer started and finished eighth last weekend at Mid-Ohio, his best qualifying and race results, and his first-ever top-10 finish in both classifications.

“It was a great weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports for me and the HMD Motorsports team. The jump I made this year to Indy NXT was obviously a big learning experience for me and we are thrilled with the progress we have made together. I want nothing more than to continue my career and grow with HMD into the 2025 season,” said Allaer.

“Due to my time in Europe last fall and some bad weather in the new year, I missed most of the off-season testing ahead of the 2024 schedule. Our plan is to hit the ground running next year, so in order not to jeopardize our financial situation, we have decided to put my efforts on hold this season. I hope to compete in at least one Indy NXT event in 2024, but together with the amazing HMD team, our focus is now on 2025.”

The first oval race of the Indy Nxt season will take place this weekend at Iowa Speedway, and some drivers had concerns about preparation since the official series test in June was washed out by rain. Three of the four remaining rounds after Iowa will also be held on oval tracks.
