England star raises ‘concerns’ behind the scenes ahead of Euro 2024 decider in Netherlands

England are reportedly concerned about Anthony Gordon’s fitness ahead of tonight’s blockbuster Euro 2024 clash with the Netherlands.

The Newcastle star has made just one appearance for the Three Lions so far, coming on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Denmark in Matchday 2.

Despite the unstable form of Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden, Gordon has yet to score a single point.

Late last month it emerged that the winger was attracting interest from Liverpool despite his past at Everton.

However, a potential move to Anfield fell through after Liverpool and Newcastle were unable to agree on contract terms.

For now, rumours about Gordon’s potential return to Merseyside have died down.

However, according to the Daily Star, the England camp are concerned that transfer talk will distract Gordon ahead of tonight’s big match.

England made five changes from Saturday’s penalty shootout victory over Switzerland.

Despite this, Gordon continued to sit on the bench as Gareth Southgate opted to bring on players such as Ivan Toney, Eberechi Eze and Cole Palmer.

The former Everton star is not expected to feature in England’s starting line-up against the Netherlands today.

Instead, only one change is likely – Marc Guehi will be on hand to replace Ezri Konsa.

England will start the match with Jordan Pickford in goal, while Guehi, Kyle Walker and John Stones will form a back three.

Bukayo Saka and Kieran Trippier will start the match in the swing defender position.

Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane are expected to feature in attack for England.

England have not fared well at Euro 2024 so far.

They have won just two of their five matches inside 90 minutes but remain unbeaten.

Southgate wants his players to “take a step forward” against the Netherlands, who will be fighting for a second place in the European Championship finals.

“We have to take another step compared to what we showed in the last match,” he said.

“This is a step forward in the quality of our opponents and we are ready for it.”

Captain Harry Kane has faced criticism for his lacklustre performance at the forefront of the England attack.

However, the Bayern Munich star insists that he, like the rest of his team-mates, will cope with the pressure.

“I don’t think we talked about it in the locker room,” he said.

“Those with more experience know what it’s like to play for England in major tournaments.

“As we played better, expectations grew and that hasn’t changed.

“Some people will use it in different ways, some people will use it as motivation, some people will just block it out and focus on what they need to do. Everyone is different.

“From a team perspective, we know what we need to achieve. We have a really important match, a really difficult match that we need to be ready for.

“We are prepared for this.”
