Bastille Day celebrations at Refectory include a four-course set-price menu


COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One of Columbus’ top French restaurants is raising a toast to freedom with a Bastille Day tasting menu.

The Refektarz restaurant has announced that it will be serving a four-course set menu from Wednesday to Saturday, aimed at guests who want to “celebrate like the French”.

“This special tasting menu will showcase the best of French cuisine, a perfect way to celebrate the spirit of independence,” the restaurant said in an email.

The menu includes the following dishes, all named after figures of the French Revolution:

Assistant to Louis XVI
• Duo with shrimp and smoked salmon and French country terrine, saffron and champagne remoulade
General Lafayette’s Assistant
• Beef Burgundy casserole, linguini with fresh basil
Assistant Danton
• Baked brie cheese in puff pastry, small arugula salad, maple syrup vinaigrette
Robespierre’s assistant
• Three Musketeers dessert trio, dark chocolate mousse, vanilla crème brûlée, cherry clafoutis

The cost is $98 per person. The restaurant notes on its website that a dining room menu will also be available to customers.

The facility is located at 1092 Bethel Rd. in a 19th-century church and school building.

Reservations can be made from Wednesday to Thursday from 5:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 4:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Refectory has received numerous accolades, including Best French Restaurant in Columbus by and the AAA 4 Diamond Award for 28 years in a row.

Bastille Day is celebrated every year on July 14. This day commemorates the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille, an armoury and prison in Paris. It is a national holiday in France.
