Upcoming ARPG sequel Titan Quest 2 takes inspiration from Diablo 3

The APRG genre seems to be experiencing a renaissance. Between games like Diablo 4, Last Epoch, New World Aeternum, and the enduring success of Path of Exile, action RPG fans have plenty to choose from. It’s all a far cry from the humble world that the original Titan Quest emerged from. Titan’s Quest 2 on the horizon, so it’s no surprise that the game draws inspiration from other popular ARPG titles currently on the market.

Fans have been clamoring for a look at what Titan Quest 2 will be like to play, and for now, developer Grimlore Games is keeping its cards close to its chest. Still, it has just revealed a few details about what players can expect from the action-RPG sequel, and there are hints that some efforts are being made to improve the game’s formula.

One big change that may seem small but has big implications is how the game will approach potions. In the original Titan Quest, you typically ended up with your inventory taken over by red and blue potions, guzzling them down in large quantities whenever you took damage or ran out of mana. In Titan Quest 2, you’ll simply have one of each type to equip, which will run on cooldown, similar to Diablo 3. Cooldowns can be reduced by dealing damage, which encourages you to stay in the fight longer. More fighting equals more healing, which is almost similar to how 2016’s Doom worked.

Another area that seems ripe for modernisation is the way it will approach player attributes in a system that sounds really flexible, allowing you to create custom builds that are entirely your own. The original game tended to lock you into specific builds – although of course you could experiment if you were brave enough and had the money to buy respecs. Titan Quest 2 will let you play around with your attributes a bit more, specialising in one or two different areas to ensure you can equip more gear and have increased combat options if you want. Or you could just throw everything into one attribute and become a master of that.

There’s also more information on how gear, death, and respawn will work, as well as a few other details – you can head over to the announcement to learn more.

Titan Quest 2 doesn’t have a release date yet but it is listed as coming soon on the game’s store page. If you want to stay up to date, add the game to your Steam wishlist.
