Former NBA player and Toronto Raptors basketball player Jontay Porter has pleaded guilty in federal court in connection with the sports betting scandal.

One of the dumbest crimes in sports in recent memory involves Jontay Porter and his Crypto brothers, who thought they could outsmart the betting apps. However, sports betting apps monitor all irregular gambling and betting activity to ensure that no insider bets are taking place under their watchful eye. Jontay Porter didn’t get the memo and thought his plan to provide confidential health information would go unnoticed.

Furthermore, missing two matches early with the increased risk of not achieving your betting goals is just asking to be caught.

According to KGET, Jontay pleaded guilty in federal court in New York and is cooperating with police. For now, he is receiving treatment for gambling addiction after being banned from the NBA by commissioner Adam Silver.

In addition to pleading guilty to “conspiracy to commit telecommunications fraud,” Porter is also implicated in the cases of four of his co-conspirators. As sports betting sweeps the country, this is the first of its kind. His ban from the NBA is a bold statement to other NBA players to keep their hands clean.

What’s more, we will soon find out how severe his punishment will be.
