Pennsylvania officials celebrate Health and Human Services building name change

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — On Wednesday, the Shapiro administration celebrated the renaming of its shared building to the Health and Human Services Building.

Department of Human Services (DHS) Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh and Dr. Debra Bogen of the Department of Health (DOH) jointly celebrated the removal of outdated language from the former “Health and Human Services” building and its replacement with the current name of the Department of Human Services to create a consistent brand for both departments.

“The renaming of the Health and Human Services Building is part of a much larger goal for the Department of Human Services as we strive to serve all Pennsylvanians with dignity and respect while ending the use of outdated and stigmatizing language,” said DHS Secretary Arkoosh. “This is more than just a name change, it is another step toward modernizing our work and refocusing our efforts on the people we serve. I am pleased that our building better reflects our Department and the work done inside to better serve all Pennsylvanians.”

“The name of the new building reflects the Shapiro Administration’s commitment to strong collaboration between the Departments of Health and Human Services to ensure that all Pennsylvanians are served well by both agencies,” he said. DOH Secretary Bogen. “The new name reflects the broad range of services provided by dedicated health and social service professionals working across the departments to meet the needs of Pennsylvanians.”

The building was renamed in January 2024, and it recently became official when new signage was installed throughout the property.
