Sedona Film Fest Presents ‘Widow Clicquot’ Premiere July 19-25

News from Sedona – The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the northern Arizona premiere of “Widow Clicquot,” July 19-25 at the Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theaters.

“The Widow Clicquot” is based on the true story of the “Grande Dame of Champagne,” Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin (1777–1866), who became Madame Clicquot at the age of 20 after marrying a scion of a winemaking family.

Although their marriage was arranged, a timeless love blossomed between Barbe-Nicole (Haley Bennett) and her poetic, unconventional and unpredictable husband, François (Tom Sturridge).

In the aftermath of her husband’s untimely death, and now a mother to Clémentine, Barbe-Nicole is still captivated and enchanted by François’s avant-garde experiments. Named Veuve (the French word for widow) at 27, she is determined to protect her family’s legacy and boldly challenge the men—and the state—who would strip her of her vineyards.

“The Widow Clicquot” (starring Haley Bennett) is based on the true story of the “Grande Dame of Champagne,” Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin (1777-1866), who became Madame Clicquot at the age of 20 after marrying a scion of a winemaking family.

Determined to promote her husband’s theories on soil chemistry, vine configuration and revolutionary bottling techniques, Barbe-Nicole sets her sights on the next harvest and her own blend of sparkling wine. Challenged by the vagaries of the seasons, aggressive competitor Monsieur Moët and the 1804 Napoleonic Code banning women from business, the elegant and luminous widow must succeed or lose everything.

“Haley Bennett is a wonder as the ‘Grande Dame of Champagne’ herself” — Collider
