This book has 256 pages full of great car photosBenedict Redgrove

Recently one of our long-time freelance photographers, Benedict Redgrove, contacted me to ask if I would be interested in viewing a book project he had started. The Auto Photo Manual is his personal project, a 256-page collection of automotive photos and stories from over 20 years, including vehicles from Aston Martin, McLaren, Roborace, Giugiaro, Bertone, Pininfarina and others.

I have been a fan of Benedict’s work for many years; for example, the images in his book “NASA – Past and Present Dreams of the Future” are iconic. Over the past few years, I have had the opportunity to work with him on several stories for Road and trackWe’re really lucky here. Research and technology work with many great photographers; Benedict is one of those talented artists whose work is truly stunning.

But this book does something rather unique in the world we live in today. We are used to seeing one image at a time, or a small gallery of images flashing before us on our cell phones, but rarely do we see complete sets of project photos—page after page showing the beauty of every detail of each subject. This book shows Benedict’s ability to make each photo seem intimate; he sees beauty in the design of each car.

The book also includes first-hand accounts of how these images were captured, behind-the-scenes photos, personal anecdotes detailing the conception and creation of each shoot, and technical pre- and post-production information. This is a behind-the-scenes look.
