Tanuj Virwani talks exclusively about his first pregnancy with wife Tanya Jacob, his commitment to fatherhood and what he’s most excited about in this phase

Actor Tanuj Virwani tied the knot with his wife Tanya Jacob on December 25, 2023 and on Thursday night, the couple announced that they are expecting their first child. When we contacted Tanuj, the dad-to-be couldn’t contain his excitement over the big news. “Tanya and I have a very old relationship. She is 32 and I will be 38 this year. We were very clear that we wanted a baby soon, so I think the moment we got married, we were like, let’s get to work now. It was definitely a planned pregnancy,” he jokes.

The actor reveals that he got the news a few months ago, but initially, they wanted to keep it low-key. “We thought it was the right time to announce the news and even if we hadn’t announced it, people would have known because of her belly,” he enthuses, adding that the baby is due in September.

Virwani says he loves pampering his wife during this pregnancy phase. “It’s a magical time and no matter how much people tell you what married life would be like, when you go through this journey alone, it’s beautiful. And all the emotions are 100 per cent right now. We are really happy,” he says, adding that he is looking forward to embracing fatherhood. “I always joke with Tanya that I was more ready to be a father than a husband.”

Talking about his ‘paternal instinct’, Virwani says, “Even in my 20s, if I met a child, a baby or a friend’s child, I would feel very protective of them and would go and play with them. I always want to make a child smile and it comes very naturally to me. Well, now that I have the opportunity to do it with my own child, I will leave no stone unturned.” In fact, it is ‘baby shopping’ that interests him the most. “I am a shopaholic and whenever I used to pass by stores to buy baby items, I would find them so cute because they are five times smaller than ours. I was always excited to shop there when I have my child and now, I am really looking forward to it,” he says.

Virwani says he is also excited to leave a legacy for his child. “I am someone who believes in succession and leaving a legacy behind and letting the next generation carry the torch. So I am very excited about this new phase in both of our lives,” he says, adding that he will be the “fun parent and Tanya will be the strict one.” “At least, she will try to be,” he concludes.
