Barbecue Contest a New Feature at Upcoming Lyon County Fair

This year’s Lyon County Fair schedule includes some new features and changes.

A new addition to the fair is a barbecue contest on August 10. Fair board vice president Aaron Armitage is looking forward to this tasty event.

Contestants will present beef breast, St. Louis style pork ribs and a chicken of their choice.

The big change in the schedule is the move of the Demolition Derby, normally the fair’s grand finale, to the middle of the schedule of events, on Aug. 10. Armitage says the derby host had a scheduling conflict, and the goal is to return the derby to the end of the fair next year. Carnival is a standalone finale for this year’s fair.

As for the grandstand schedule, other traditional events will also return, such as the Ranch Rodeo on Aug. 4, Buck Rumble and Roll on Aug. 6, 4-H Rodeo on Aug. 7, Antique Tractor Pull on Aug. 8, 4-H Premium Sale on Aug. 12 and Truck and Tractor Pull on Aug. 16. Armitage says tickets are available now.

Fair events will be held from August 1-17. As always, KVOE will have extensive Lyon County Fair coverage, including reports from the 4-H shows, videos of the animal shows and remote viewing from the stands.

Information about the fair can be found at lyoncountyfairks.org and on the Lyon County Fair Facebook page.
