LA trio Jr. Juggernaut debut “Take Alone,” the next single from their upcoming album Another Big Explosion , out August 9. The record is their first release on Mindpower Records and their first to feature bassist Noah Green (of LA’s The Pretty Flowers).

“When you’re desperate for human connection, sometimes you let someone use you or abuse you just to have someone else in the room with you,” vocalist/guitarist Mike Williamson says of the song. “It’s not the right decision, but sometimes it’s the only one that makes sense.”

ABOUT:

JR. JUGGERNAUT: The Next Big Explosion (Mindpower Records, 2024)

In an age where technology, computing, mobile media and their accompanying gimmicks permeate all forms of creativity, it’s nice to remember that sometimes a great album can be made up of the most simple and honest elements: guitar strings, drumsticks, tube amps, crash cymbals and songs created from inspiration and intuition.

What Los Angeles trio Jr. Juggernaut have assembled for their fourth full-length, Another Big Explosion , emanates from a deeply emotional state of mind, combined with the raw power of split drumsticks, speakers driven to breaking point, and a particularly timely, fresh take on the warm and fuzzy sounds of ’90s-style alt-rock. If the original version of MTV’s “120 Minutes” were still airing, the ten songs on Jr. Juggernaut’s latest album would be candidates for Buzz Bin video status.

Above all, “Another Big Explosion” certainly lives up to its name. From the bright, melodic and driving tracks “Hang On” and “Lonely Boy” to the brooding, brooding closer “Total Darkness,” everything on the album is bold and expansive, yet tuned for maximum guitar-drenched attack.

Singer/guitarist Mike Williamson had a combination of melody and noise in mind when writing the album. “For this album, I chose an alternate tuning that allowed me to play big power chords while still letting the top strings ring out, like a shiny bell on top of a steaming locomotive,” Williamson says. “That shaped the whole soundscape of the album and gave us what I think is both our heaviest and prettiest album to date.”

Co-produced by Williamson and Jr. Juggernaut drummer Wal Rashidi, Another Big Explosion is the first Jr. Juggernaut album to feature bassist Noah Green (of L.A.’s The Pretty Flowers). It is also the first Jr. Juggernaut release to appear on Mindpower Records.

“We’re thrilled to have teamed up with Mindpower to release this album,” says Rashidi. “The band discussed a long list of labels, but Mindpower kept climbing to the top of the list of options. I think it’s a win-win.”

While some artists still rely on the latest technological advancements to push the envelope, Jr. Juggernaut recognizes that his work can be boiled down to the basics: Marshall half-stacks cranked up to a dizzying pitch, snare drums vibrating with every hit, and songs written entirely from the heart.

Jr. Juggernaut’s “Another Big Explosion” is set to be released in August 2024 via Mindpower Records.
