Pixar Win or Lose Sets Disney+ Release Date, Reveals Trailer

“Win or Lose,” Pixar’s first original long-form series for Disney+, premiered at D23 in 2022 and again last summer at the Annecy International Animation Festival in France. And then… crickets.

During Friday’s D23 presentation, we learned the December 6 release date for “Win or Lose” and a new trailer was revealed, which you can watch below.

Created by Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates — the storytellers behind “Toy Story 4” — the series centers on a high school softball game. (Go Pickles!) Each episode is told from a different perspective — it could be one of the kids, it could be the referee, it could be one of the kids’ parents, like in an episode that aired in Annecy last year.

And the animation style is even more expressive and exaggerated than Turning Red , which is probably the series’ closest cousin. It’s an energetic, deeply moving series — and the new trailer gives you plenty to be excited about.

The cast of “Win or Lose” includes Will Forte as Coach Dan, the softball coach; Milan Ray as Rochelle’s catcher; and Rosa Salazar as Vanessa, Rochelle’s single mother.

This will be Pixar’s first long-form (around 20 minutes) original animated series for Disney’s direct-to-consumer streaming platform, but it has spawned a few shorter-form series, like the wonderful “Forky Asks a Question” and “Dug Days,” based on characters from the “Toy Story” and “Up” franchises (both directed by longtime Pixar mainstay Bob Peterson). There was also “Cars on the Road” and “Pixar Popcorn,” the latter of which featured micro-shorts that often repurposed pre-existing soundtracks from earlier Pixar films.

During the D23 presentation, Pixar also announced that Dream Productions — a spin-off of Inside Out — will be coming to Disney+.

“Win or Lose” premieres on Disney+ on December 6.
