On July 8, in Kathua in Jammu district, a deadly terrorist ambush took place on an Army patrol in the remote Machedi forest belt, resulting in the death of five soldiers, including a junior officer (JCO).

Despite extensive search operations, terrorists linked to the Kashmir Tigers, a group operating in the shadow of Pakistan’s Jaish-e-Mohammad that recently infiltrated the country, remain undetected.

In a post on X portal, the JK police released composite sketches of four terrorists who were last seen wearing ‘dhoks’ in Malhar, Bani and Seojdhar forests in the upper areas of the district.

“…a reward of Rs 5 lakhs has been announced for any terrorist who gives any actionable information. Anyone having credible information about the terrorists will also be rewarded accordingly,” the Kathua police said in a post.

Authorities said the police, with the support of the Army and CRPF, have already launched a large-scale search operation in the area to nab the terrorists.

A military helicopter was also circling the area, dropping paratroopers, they said, and drones and other state-of-the-art equipment were being used to help comb the area. There has been no contact with terrorists so far.

District police appealed to the public to provide information on the whereabouts of the terrorists.

“The identity of the informant will remain confidential to encourage more people to come forward, as the public’s help is crucial to preventing potential threats to national security,” a police spokesman said.

Let’s work together to make the community safer, he said.

The Kathua ambush was followed by another attack by a separate group of terrorists in the Desa forest in Doda district on July 15, in which four soldiers, including a captain, were killed.

The Doda police have also released composite sketches of four terrorists involved in the attack and announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh for each of them. Efforts are on to nab them.

Earlier on June 9, nine passengers, including seven pilgrims returning from Shiv Khori temple, were killed by terrorists in Reasi district. The terrorists involved in the attack are also at large, despite a cash reward on their heads.
