Brit Scream Queen Ayvianna Snow

by Phil Wheat

Ayvianna Snow, an actor ‘fast becoming the British Queen of Horror’ (Sean Cronin)stars in two highly anticipated new British independent films, Bogieville and Derelictboth set to make their World premiere at this year’s FrightFest 25th Anniversary event in London this month. We catch up with Ayvianna for a chat.

You have two new films premiering at FrightFest this month, can you tell us a bit more about them?

In Bogieville I play a vampire called Mary. Bogieville is an intriguing tale set in a derelict American trailer park. It follows the story of a young couple who find themselves lured in by the sinister caretaker, ‘Crawford’. Unbeknownst to them, Crawford is the guardian of the park’s residents, a pack of blood-thirsty hillbilly vampires. The film is directed by the renowned British filmmaker and actor Sean Cronin, who also stars as the lead vampire.

Derelict is Director Jonathan Zaurin’s harrowing and violent thriller of revenge and empowerment. The film focuses on a daughter’s revenge and the circumstances that led to the murder of her father. It’s soaked in the tradition of British film noir, with a series of unusual characters thrown into situations that will have repercussions beyond their imagination.

You are now a regular at FrightFest, what do you enjoy most about it, and which films (other than your own) are you planning to check out this year?

Tsar looks amazing, and it stars Johnny Vivash and Michaela Longden who are good friends of mine after I worked with them on How To Kill Monsters last year. I always wish my friends well with their projects.

What skills do you think you need most (apart from acting ability) to be a successful horror film actor?

The ability to connect with your audience; horror films invoke primal, visceral feelings and the audience has to care about the characters.

What has surprised you most about working in the horror genre?

How friendly and warm the whole community is and how much fun you have on set- it might be scary to watch, but it’s often great fun to film!

You are having a horror movie marathon at home, name five films would you choose?

Judy & Punch (a little-known retelling of the Punch & Judy story told from Judy’s perspective, for once!), The Others, Interview with the Vampire (the original), The Haunting of Hill House, The Shining.

Can you tell us about any new projects you have coming up?

I have just finished filming two new, top-secret projects I am not allowed to talk about yet; one directed by Andy Edwards whom I worked with before on Punchand the other by Steve Lawson, who I have worked with several times. They are both horrors and I had a great time on both projects!
