Jaipur:In the wake of sectarian tensions that erupted in Rajasthan’s Udaipur after a Class 10th student stabbed a minor boy to death in a public school, the district administration announced that all schools and colleges in the city will remain closed on Saturday.

The district judge also imposed Section 144 and issued prohibitory orders prohibiting maintenance of public order in the city. The district administration also suspended internet services for the next 24 hours from 10 pm on Friday, which will last till Saturday.

District Commissioner Rajendra Bhatt has issued orders to cut off internet services in Bedla, Badgaon, Balicha, Debari, Eklingpura, Kanpur, Dhikali and Bhuwana areas of Udaipur for 24 hours from Friday.

The time to restore services may also be extended based on demand, sources said. However, leased line services will remain operational during this time.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Jawahar Singh Bedham said the student injured in the clash was being treated at a hospital under the supervision of senior doctors. “Our priority is to save the life of the child. The Chief Minister is monitoring the incident.

I am in constant touch with the district administration. The government will take strict action against the criminals. I appeal to all to maintain peace.” A fight between two school students led to communal tension in Udaipur on Friday.

One of the injured students, Devraj, was rushed to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment. The accused student, who fled soon after the attack on his classmate, has been detained and an investigation is on, said District Collector Arvind Poswal.

As part of the protest, Hindu organisations have appealed to shop owners to close their shops in Chetak Circle, Hathipol, Ashwini Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar and Ghantaghar areas.

Traders closed their shops. Protesting the attack, the mob threw stones and ransacked the mall. Vehicles were set on fire and a heavy police force was deployed to prevent further untoward incidents.

The police had to resort to baton …

The boy will recover soon, Poswal said. Most of the markets have been closed. Police teams are closely monitoring the situation
