Jennifer Lopez’s Reaction to Her Breakup Is Understandable, But Humiliating

It looks like Jennifer Lopez has joined the ranks of those who are using Instagram to show their exes, the world, and even themselves that they are actually doing just fine, thank you very much.

After two years of marriage, Lopez and Ben Affleck are ready divorce – and J. Lo is dealing with her breakup in a surprisingly realistic way.

As summer partnerships (or, in Lopez’s case, marriages) seem to be falling apart, the phenomenon often referred to online as “posting through it” has returned with a vengeanceance and even J.Lo are not immune.

Anyone with a social media account has probably noticed an increase in mirror selfies and inspirational quotes on their feeds as recently singles seek to control the narrative surrounding their late-summer breakups.

While you may not have known this phenomenon had a name, chances are you’ve “published within it” yourself.

The term refers to the tendency of people who have recently ended a relationship to suddenly and passionately post online about their heartbreak.

These attempts to get attention often manifest themselves in the form of an increased number of “thirst traps” (i.e. attractive images of the poster), quotes or song lyrics that subtly reference the breakup, and content that seems to cry out with tears in its eyes, “LOOK HOW WELL I’M DOING ME!”

J. Lo posted about her highly publicized divorce from Ben Affleck in what might be the most believable thing the singer has done in recent years — even if it is embarrassing.

This week, the 55-year-old star posted a series of photos on Instagram with the caption: “Oh my, that was summer.”

The first photo shows singer Jenny From the Block grimacing in front of a mirror, showing off her famous curves. The photo features a Tumblr-worthy quote: “Everything happens according to divine order.”

The entire carousel — which also includes a photo of a T-shirt reading “thriving, uninhibited, off limits and at peace” as well as an incredibly cheeky mirror selfie of J. Lo in a white swimsuit — could be read as a not-so-subtle statement on Lopez’s divorce.

Fans were quick to comment on social media on the post-breakup post, in which @trigllav wrote to X: “Every girl, regardless of status or money, behaves the same after a breakup.”

@emilygmonster wrote: “There’s something comforting about knowing that even fame and fortune can’t protect you from publishing through it.”

@QteeFoxx agreed: “Thirst trap plus motivational quotes from Pinterest, oh she’s really going through this, huh ”

@GraceKing1167 commented: “She should know that by posting this she is only proving how much she is suffering.”

@mjrsumption said: “I’m afraid posting through it may not be a long-term strategy.”

@royal_bobby24 wrote: “All women, regardless of income and age, behave the same on social media after This parting.

@cuteritu55 wrote: “Even she goes through an inspirational quotes phase after being dumped…”

@ArtsRayne agreed: “It’s a canon event. Unfortunately, I know Pinterest doesn’t like us coming when we go through this”

Many agree that Lopez is trying to appear unfazed and experiencing a personal renaissance in the eyes of the world (and perhaps even in the eyes of Affleck) as her divorce unfolds.

But those of us who have posted bikini pics and self-love quotes on Instagram while sobbing in the bathtub can see the heart of her methods.

Like most people who post there, Lopez unwittingly revealed the depth of her sensitivity, putting in a lot of effort to appear invulnerable, or as @HusenMymor wrote about her post on X, “People who say they don’t care are usually concerned about it.”

A breakup is a unique kind of emotional minefield, both an attempt to redefine our identity after the end of a relationship and an opportunity to grieve for the person who has left our life.

Lopez is handling her situation in the public eye in a way we can all relate to — even if it’s embarrassing — and it’s made the often out-of-touch star more likable than she’s been in a long time.

This was Lopez and Affleck’s second attempt to keep their romance going, which almost certainly made it more painful when they decided to end it this time.

The couple first became engaged in the early 2000s on the set of the crime comedy Gigli, and the press quickly nicknamed them “Bennifer.”

However, the relationship ended just before their wedding, and it took decades for them to reconcile in 2021.

It appears they have parted ways for the final time, ending the Hollywood fairy tale once and for all.

“(Lopez) is very disappointed and sad, but Ben has not given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage,” a source told People magazine..

“He has shown no commitment or interest in making their marriage work. It has come to the point where she simply needs to take care of herself.”

As J. Lo attempts to redefine herself in the post-Affleck era, all we can do is wish her the best — and maybe gently suggest she stay away from the internet for a while.
