Enphase Energy Announces Solution to Augment Legacy NEM Solar Energy Systems in California

FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 4, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Enphase Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENPH), a global energy technology company and the world’s leading supplier of microinverter-based solar and battery systems, today announced a solution that enables the expansion of legacy net energy metered (NEM) solar systems in California without penalties with a new Enphase solution® Energy Systems configurations with IQ® Microinverters, IQ® Enphase batteries and power control.

Many California homeowners with solar panels use more energy than they produce each year due to the increasing electrification of homes and transportation. Until recently, homeowners enrolled in the older NEM programs (1.0 and 2.0) were limited in how much they could expand their systems without switching to the new NEM 3.0 tariff program, which offers a lower value for exported solar energy.

Now, homeowners with older NEM solar systems can upgrade their systems without having to upgrade to NEM 3.0 by taking advantage of Enphase’s new power control feature and system configurations. These configurations have been approved by two of California’s largest utilities (PG&E and SCE), and SDG&E will soon follow suit. Older NEM upgrades can help homeowners meet increased energy demands and lower their utility bills, while providing more business opportunities for solar installers across the state. Watch a detailed explainer video from the Enphase training team here.

“The Enphase legacy system upgrade solution allows us to continue to maximize the value of solar energy for our customers as their energy needs grow,” said Mike Thompson, CEO of Golden Bear Solar. “These new guidelines and the technology behind them are key to supporting our ability to not only fulfill our role as solar installers, but also to be long-term energy advisors to our customers throughout the life of their systems.”

“Because homeowners’ energy needs are dynamic, they require energy solutions that can evolve over time,” said Landon Wimmer, CEO of Empower Home. “The new Enphase configurations for legacy NEM systems enable the highly configurable nature of the Enphase Energy System to maximize energy savings.”

In addition, Solargraf®Enphase’s design and bidding software platform can help installers design systems that optimize solar and battery capabilities to achieve maximum savings under new California solar regulations.

“As we continue to support our installers and homeowners in California, it is critical that we offer solutions designed to maximize value, regardless of policy,” said Mehran Sedigh, senior vice president of sales at Enphase Energy. “Our product suite not only aligns well with regulatory changes, but also provides tangible benefits to customers, allowing them to fully embrace renewable energy.”
