Jason Kelce jokes about telling his daughters that cats are ‘poisonous’ so they won’t want them

“Kylie says, ‘They’re not toxic. Your dad is lying to you,'” the retired NFL star revealed about his wife on the latest episode of his podcast “New Heights.”

Jason Kelce doesn’t like cats.

The retired Philadelphia Eagles player, 36, shared in the latest episode of his New heights In the podcast “With Jason and Travis Kelce,” released September 3, he told his daughters that cats “are poisonous” in an attempt to prevent them from bringing a feline home.

“You know what my latest plan is to keep our family cat-free? I keep telling our girls that cats are poisonous,” Jason revealed, referring to his three daughters Wyatt, 4, Elliotte, 3, and Bennett, 18 months, whom he shares with wife Kylie Kelce.

“Why the hell did you tell them that?” his brother Travis Kelce, 34, asked.

“…So they don’t want cats,” Jason explains. “And I don’t have to take care of a cat and terrify them.”

“That’s crazy,” Travis replied. Seemingly unfazed, Jason said, “Whatever. They’ll figure it out. I think lying to your kids is a big deal,” he joked.

“Not in this case,” Travis said with a laugh. “They’re going to go to a friend’s house and scream bloody murder because they see a cat.”

“That’s good. That sounds like the problem with that person’s house,” Jason continued.

Travis laughed even harder as he called his older brother a “psychopath” and said he was “ridiculous.”

“I have to have these kids on my side. Otherwise, I’m in a sinking boat,” Jason continued, while admitting that his wife Kylie doesn’t condone his lies.

“Kylie’s like, ‘They’re not poisonous. Your dad’s lying to you,’” the father of three explained. “I’m like, ‘Listen, if you have a cat, the government will come and take it away because they’re so deadly, they can kill you… and they don’t even have to bite you. They just lick you.’”

Although he grew up with cats, the retired NFL star shared that as he got older, he no longer liked furry companions.

“I just don’t want a cat,” Jason continued. “I don’t want another animal in the house. My dogs have already ruined the furniture.”

Jason finally added that cats are “fine if they stay outside,” before offering the compromise of getting an outdoor cat if his daughters still want one.

“I’m going to get an outdoor cat. I’m OK with an outdoor cat,” he added.

Jason’s comments come after Kylie, 32, enlisted Travis’ help in convincing Jason to get a cat on a December 2023 episode of the brothers’ podcast.

“No, here’s the thing, I told Jason I wanted a cat,” Kylie said. “And he said no. And I feel like maybe you like cats now.”

“What color cat do you want?” Travis replied.

“I don’t want you to send a cat. I just want you to join my team here,” Kylie told her brother-in-law, adding that she asked because she thought Travis “might like cats now.”

Travis’ girlfriend Taylor Swift is a cat lover. The pop superstar is the proud mother of three felines: Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson, and Benjamin Button.
