Naomi Campbell publicly responds to Anna Wintour’s comment about her being late to an awards show

Things may be heating up in the fashion world as Noami Campbell and Anna Wintour recently exchanged words at an awards show.

If you were lucky enough to be at the Harlem Fashion and Runway Show on Tuesday (September 3), you would probably be sitting there with your jaw dropped.

Or you could sit there like Kermit the Frog, sipping tea, while supermodel Naomi Campbell and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour exchanged seemingly insignificant snipes.

Funnily enough, the British model was actually there to receive the award from Wintour, which makes this interaction especially interesting.

While on stage, Wintour was scheduled to honor Campbell with the Fashion Icon Award, but she was late for the ceremony, which Wintour made clear to everyone in attendance.

A video began circulating on Twitter of Wintour saying, “I am a very punctual person and I am honored to give a presentation today to someone who is often late.”

When Campbell finally took the stage, Wintour had reportedly already left the venue, leaving the event to Samira Nasr, editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar.

Campbell said, “Yes, Naomi is always late. But I believe in my higher power and I want to thank my higher power for allowing me to be here.”

She then said she wished Nasr had been present, adding jokingly: “Everything will work out the way it was supposed to work out.

“It wasn’t my choice to have a second lady (Wintour). I would have preferred to have this.”

This caused quite a stir among the audience, and those on social media did not miss the potential insult.

However, opinions on Campbell’s reaction were generally divided.

“‘The other lady’ – no names were mentioned, but the words were spot on,” a delighted fan commented, adding a GIF.

“Naomi’s delivery was legendary — she never lets a comment slip, especially when it comes to her timing and presence. Looks like she got the last word in style!” another commented.

“Naomi Campbell is a legend and no one will preach to her, not even Anna Wintour! She dishes out shade with class and precision,” wrote a third.

Some weren’t as impressed, though, as one user noted: “How many people applauded Naomi for her comeback, instead of questioning her professionalism because she was late to an event she was being awarded for?”

“Well, being late is rude,” wrote another.
