Fargo Fencing Program Suspended; Sexual Harassment Investigation Underway

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – USA Fencing reported Monday, Aug. 19, that the USA Fencing Center for Sports Safety has notified USA Fencing that Jason Schoenack has been suspended for five years, following reports of alleged sexual abuse and sexual misconduct.

Fargo Park District says Schoenack was a volunteer who coordinated the fencing program. Fargo Park District says that after being notified of the investigation by USA Fencing SafeSport, Schoenack was immediately fired and the program was suspended.

USA Fencing says that because of Schoenack’s suspension, he is unable to participate in any capacity or in any USA Fencing-sanctioned role during the period of his suspension. “We hope this outcome serves as a stark warning to all that such conduct is threatening, harmful or inappropriate toward anyone in our sport and will not be tolerated,” USA Fencing released a statement to Valley News Live.

USA Fencing officials say Schoenack had 10 business days from Aug. 19 to file a request for an appeal hearing at the USA Sports Safety Center, but because he failed to do so, the decision became final.
