In the latest issue of Grilling JR (via AdFreeShows), Jim Ross gave his take on the upcoming series, stating that the quality of the product will depend on Vince’s level of involvement.

“It all depends on how involved Vince is in the project from a production perspective. Look, he’s a controversial guy, and it’s a hell of a story. I can tell you Bill Simmons is really talented. His 30 for 30, all the things he’s done, are significant. (Tiger King) made money and it worked. I can’t wait to see how much Vince delves into the production, the storytelling, the writing. He can make or break it. There’s always a way at the end for the guy to hold on to some degree, and I expect that to happen here. But boy, what a hell of a story. I mean, if you’re a storyteller like Simmons and the other cat, you’ve hit a gold mine in storytelling because you can’t write stuff like that. It just seems impossible, but it is, it’s real. How real it stays and how accurate the storytelling is is going to be everything that determines the success of this. Our beloved wrestling fans know this story as well as the storytellers. I can’t wait to see it, I’ll definitely watch it. I’m intrigued by it. There was a time when I never thought it would happen, I never thought it would happen, but we were wrong about that.

Ross added that he was not interviewed for the project.

“No (I was not at that interview). Yes, (I was surprised by that) too. What are you afraid of? What powers are there to be afraid of? Why shouldn’t you interrogate me?”

Ross continued and said he would be happy to do an interview for the show if anyone approached him.

“Nobody was closer to Vince than I was at certain times during my tenure. Right-handed material. I never got a call. Maybe they didn’t think I was good enough to get in touch with them. I would have done an interview if someone had approached me. But they didn’t, and I don’t know why, because I know every secret, every nook and cranny, all nine yards. My feelings aren’t hurt because I wasn’t involved, maybe it’s better that I wasn’t, it’s just easier to watch. A lot of us don’t like watching ourselves on TV.”

Ross ended the topic by stating that he would get Tony Khan’s consent to participate in the project.
